    Hi Jim,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I appreciate your efforts taken to resolve the issue.

I understand that the video lags when you play a movie from a projector connected to a Windows 8.1 system. However, I would like to know some more information to narrow down the issue and provide you with better assistance.

    1. What is make and model of the computer?
    2. Have you updated your graphics driver recently?

The issue may reside with the new projector hardware including the connection cable. However, as far as connection with Windows 8.1 computer is concerned, the issue may also arise if the graphics card driver installed in the system is incompatible or needs to be updated with the latest version. Other possibilities involve a third party software service intervention that might be causing the lag.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if the issue persists.

    Method 1:

    Update the graphics card adapter.

Step 1: Uninstall the display adapter

    a) Press Windows key + X, click Device Manager.

    b) Expand the node Display adapters.

    c) Right click on the device driver and click Uninstall.

    d) Follow the onscreen instructions and restart your computer.

Step 2: Download and install the latest graphics card driver

Download and install the latest version of graphics card driver from the system manufacturer's website for your system model.

If the issue still exists, try the next method.

    Method 2:

Clean boot the system and check if it helps.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

If the issue still exists, try the next method.

    Method 3:

    Install the latest Windows Updates.

Check if you have any recommended or optional updates that pertain to the projector model in Windows updates. Install all the pending updates and check if the issue persists.

    1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.
    2. Tap or click Check now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your PC.
    3. If updates are found, tap or click Install updates. Read and accept the license terms, and then tap or click Finish if the update requires it.

Check if the projector works fine.

    Additional information:

Connect a second monitor or projector

Hope this information is helpful. Do let us know if you need any further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.
