Unable to Print, Print Shop 3.5 Deluxe projects from Windows 8.1 using HP 6500 Printer

I acquired a new HP computer with Windows 8.1 and then downloaded The Print Shop 3.5 Deluxe version.  I have used earlier Print Shop versions on a Windows 7 computer with no problems.  The PS 3.5 downloaded okay and works.  However, I am unable to print any of my projects.  When I click "Print" the PS window closes.  Checking the printer queue shows no documents. Any help solving this compatibility problems?

In response to your questions for additional information:

    1. I have no problem printing other Word, Excel, PDF or o other documents.  It appears to be related specifically to the The Print Shop application.

    2.  The Print Shop (Deluxe) is a graphic design program published by Broderbund.  It is a pretty basic program, but I find it useful for designing posters, postcards, labels, posters, etc.  The version I am trying to use on my computer is 3.5.
