Guitar Hero X-plorer drivers are needed on Windows 7

I'm running Windows 7 which should be able to run Xbox controllers without the need for any extra installation. However, when plugging my "Guitar Hero X-plorer" in to a USB slot, everything except the model is either unknown or unavailable. Under the device status, it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". Troubleshooting to find a driver automatically fails - it cannot locate one. I have tried downloading/installing the Microsoft Common Controller driver, but I am met with the "Not enough storagee is available to process this command." error. I've already tried fixing that error by finding answers to people who recieve the same error, but to no avail. Does anybody have any idea as to what I should try?

It doesn't do anything when you do this. I can't find a single download for this anywhere. Is this another case of Microsoft discontinuing support of something in yet another effort to force people into Windows 8? ATTENTION MICROSOFT, THE QUESTION IS THIS: WILL THIS CONTROLLER WORK ON WINDOWS 7 64 BIT? IF SO, WHERE CAN THE DRIVER BE DOWNLOADED? IF NOT, JUST SAY SO, SO THAT EVERYONE ELSE LIKE ME LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION FOR THIS KNOWS THAT WE'VE BEEN F***ED OVER YET AGAIN BY YOU AND WE CAN QUIT LOOKING. THANK YOU FOR RENDERING WINDOWS 7 OBSOLETE BTW. WAY TO REWARD CUSTOMER LOYALTY.

This is bullshit, i spend 40 dollars on this guitar, and i can't even use it!

    Hi,

I want to verify that this is the driver that you have been trying to download.

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=4190

If you have not tried downloading from this link, please do so and come back with results.

I have read that this device is normally a plug and play, which means the drivers needed should already be installed on your computer. When was the last time you did a Windows Update? I highly suggest doing that, especially if the link above does not fix the issue.

    Hey Basith,

Firstly, thank you for replying. I managed to follow up to stage "f": Under the device manager, I don't actually seem to have the "Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Call" category. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm on a laptop using Windows 7 Home Premium.

I am quite sure that my copy of Windows is genuine - I made my purchase from Dell, and to be able to download the "Microsoft Common Controller" driver from the Microsoft website as mentioned in the original post, I had to run "GenuineCheck.exe" that successfully generated a code.

Is there some way I can that I can obtain this category? Also, it may be notable to mention that I tried plugging the X-Plorer in a relative's computer, and it successfully installed (though their computer is running Windows Vista).

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I would suggest you to try the following the steps to install X-plorer Controller on your computer and check if it helps.

    a.       Plug the X-Plorer Controller's USB cable into an available USB port on the computer.

    b.      Windows should automatically detect the controller and will automatically install required hardware drivers.

    c.       Click on the "Start" button after the "Installing new hardware" icon disappears from the task bar.

    d.      Select "Control Panel." Click on "Classic View" in the left column.

    e.      Double-click on "System" and click on "Device Manager" in the left column.

    f.        Find "Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class." Expand the category by clicking on the "+."

    g.       Open the "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" entry. Click on the "Driver" tab.

    h.      Click on "Update Driver." Allow Windows to "Search Automatically."

    i.         Close the X-plorer Controller window once Windows updates to the latest driver.

Make sure that the Guitar Hero X-plorer is working fine.

If the above mentioned steps do not help, then it would be better to contact the manufacturer of the Guitar Hero X-plorer for further assistance.

    Hope the information is helpful.
