How do I open a Wordpad document file on Open Office?  I have my documents saved on an external hard drive.  They were originally created on Word Perfect (version 7 I believe), I'm trying to open them on my new computer that is currently running Windows 7 with Open Office, however they have a Wordpad (WPD) extension on them.  What can I do to rectify this and get them opened?  I found a how to on this and am trying to follow it however, the drop down menu on the Open windows doesn't contain Wordpad, at least that I can see.  Thank you for all your help!

Of course you can save a letter in Open Office.. :-)

Open Office 4 will read a large variety of document types, and can save in it's default form, ODF, or you can set it to save in MS Office formats by going to Tools > Options > Load/Save > General and selecting whatever format you want to save in..

WPD is a WordPerfect file format which can be opened in Libre Office 4..

    http://www.libreoffice.org/download

WordPad file format used to be .doc, but it now default saves in .rtf

Unless I've misunderstood ( if so sorry ):

WPD is probably WordPerfect isn't it? - http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/wpd

    If so - http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090814173105AAaXFcd and http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Writer/DocumentManagement/Does_OpenOffice.org_support_WordPerfect_file_formats%3F

If that is the case, you should be looking for a wordperfect import not a wordpad one.

( I don't have any WPD documents to try, and my Wordpad ( Windows 7 starter ) doesn't seem to be able to <open> or <save as> a WPD file)
