I have a programming language called QB64 on my computer and the file extension is .bas. My files have always been able to open with QB64.exe until a couple of days ago. Now all of a sudden when I open a file a box comes up asking what program I want to use to open the file along with "do you want to continue using QB64.exe." And of course if I click on that the file opens up but I Never had to do this before and I can't make the file association permanent.  Is there anyway to make the association permanent. It used to be.

Thanks for any help.

Tom

On the tab that offers you to open with QB64.exe just look bottom right for a check box written "Set as default application" check the box then click Apply then ok

I have done all of that. It doesn't set it to open like it should. The file still comes up like I originally stated.

And there is no place on the box that comes up to "check" to make it the default as one person has noted.

. My files have always been able to open with QB64.exe until a couple of days ago. Now all of a sudden when I open a file a box comes up asking what program I want to use to open the file along with "do you want to continue using QB64.exe." And of course if I click on that the file opens up

So you got to set default so that it wont ask again

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/change-default-programs#1TC=windows-7

    Change the file association

    1. Click the Start Button and click Default Programs.
    2. Click "Associate a file type or protocol with program."
    3. Click the XXX file extension and verify whether it is correctly set to open with the program which you want to use.
    4. If the configuration is not set correctly, please highlight this XXX file extension and click the Change program button.
    5. Check whether the program is listed in the Recommended Program or Other Programs. If so, please choose the program and click OK.
    6. If not, please click the Browse button to locate the correct program.
    7. Click OK.

    Type 2:

    Set the default programs

    1. Click the Start Button and click Default Programs.
    2. Click "Set your default programs".
    3. Highlight the XXX< program in the Program pane and click "Set this program as default".
    4. If you would like to manually choose which file types and protocols to open by the selected program, please click "Choose defaults for this program".
    5. Verify whether the related options are checked.
    6. Click Save after changing the related settings.
