I have a HP Pavilion 6 i5 processor with Windows 8 pre-installed. My CD light does not blink when I press the eject button and the laptop is two weeks old. Please direct me to the relevant page where i can download a driver to install CD functionality on my laptop. Thankyou.

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for choosing Windows 8 and thanks for providing us an opportunity to assist you.

As per the description provided, it looks like you facing an issue with CD/DVD drive in windows 8.

Check if you are able to view CD\DVD from device manager.

Press Windows Key +R, type devmgmt.msc to open the Device Manager.

It would be grateful if you can reply to this question in order to assist you further.

    1.     What is the make and model of the computer?

    2.     Are you able to access your CD\DVD drives from Windows Explorer?

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

    **** Method 1:

I would suggest you to run the hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    a.     Press Windows key + W to search Settings.

    b.     Type “Troubleshoot” without quotes and click on Troubleshooting.

    c.     In the new window, click Hardware and Sound.

    Reference:

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to delete the in-correct registry files and check if it helps.

    a.     Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

    b.     In the ‘Run’ windows type regedit and hit enter.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    c.     In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    d.     In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note you may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry.

    e.     On the Edit menu, click Delete.

When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click yes.

    f.      In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note if you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.

    g.     On the Edit menu, click Delete.

    h.     When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click yes.

    i.      Exit Registry Editor.

    j.      Restart the computer.

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

    Method 3:

I would suggest you to download and install the CD\DVD drives from manufactures website and check if it helps.

    a)    Press Windows Key +R, type devmgmt.msc to open the Device Manager.

    b)    Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, click on the driver.

    c)     Click on Properties, click on Driver tab.

    d)    Click on Update Driver.

We would be more than happy to help you further if the above steps did not resolve the issue.
