is there a way to delete orphaned files?

long story short l have an external drive which has just started asking me to scan it..  its happened to me once before and l RMA'd the drive however l ran a few further tests this time which l didnt last.

the drives smart hasnt tripped, and seatools doesnt detect any errors on the generic tests or the longer one.. however whenever l run scandisk the drive becomes inaccessible (the space gauge disappears from my computer) lve left it for a while and the drive does seem to be accessed but it sticks on whatever percentage it got to.

now lve ran scandisk without any switches to see what issues it picked up and it notes 15 orphaned files and an issue with the file table which l believe is pretty much the same issue.. problem is when l use /f and it gets to the first orphaned file it just stays there and does what l outlined above. now it seems these 15 files were from a directory which l deleted prior to the issue cropping up.. (a 45GB folder which contained 2000 folders with over 10000+ images and videos from a server backup thats now outdated) these 15 files that are orphaned l dont need and want to remove in the hopes l can by pass this issue and fix any further issues on the drive.

it just seems really strange that the same problem l had with the previous drive has cropped up despite being two different drives (l took down SN# to make sure l wasnt sent the same drive back), there is no possible way for me to fit the drive in the system without spending 20mins undoing cable ties then trying to access the ability to connect to a sata (it was annoying enough replacing the drives the other week without having to go in again and undo everything again to access a sata cable/power).

there has to be a way to get rid of the offending orphaned files where scandisk stops or at least lm hoping there is as l have no space whatsoever to backup to and reformat the drive.

after doing a little messing around lve managed to cut down the amount of files l needed to copy down to 600gb which lve already got on system managing to clear the drive, suffice to say lve just quick formatted it scandisk picks up no problems now, which l guess leaves me no closer as two why this second drive did the same thing as the first one l had, if it happens again and correlates to a large deletion then l'll have an idea why the issues crop up.

lve checked the drive and there is no such folder as Found.000 on my external or primary hard drive meaning there is no way for me to delete the files which is what l want to do. but unless l have access to the files (chkdsk doesnt seem to want to recover them it just stalls on the recovery part) then l just get stuck on the first orphaned file it finds.

it was a figure of speech. essentially l ran a disk check that always stalls on orphan files which l recently deleted.

To avoid ambiguities you need to be highly precise when reporting technical problems.

    The search phrase

    chkdsk orphaned files

will get you numerous hits when used with a search engine, some of which are likely to solve your problem.

    now l've ran (run?) scandisk

Scandisk is a Windows 98 command. You should use chkdsk.exe.
