.Intel GMA 3600 driver for Windows 8.1(Graphics Media Accelerator) not working

Hey Community,

I have bought a netbook last year with installed Windows 7 SP1 32-bit, and I decided to upgrade it into Windows 8.1. I have successfully upgraded it, but when I install the Intel GMA 3600 Driver, it installed fine but the windows 8 apps won't work. As it says, The screen resolution is too low. So I've decided to plug it into external display/ monitor. Still it worked fine for me, but when I open any Metro Apps including Internet Explorer 11, the screen turns black and turns off, then restarts. Does anyone of you have the same problem about Intel GMA 3600? Can an update fix this? How can I fix this? Or I just have to admit that Intel GMA 3600 doesn't support Windows 8.1?

Acer Aspire One D270

My NetBook Specs are:

  • 1024x600 Resolution
  • 2GB of RAM- Intel Atom N2800 Processor(x64-bit based processor)
  • Intel GMA 3600 Graphics Card
  • Windows 8.1 Enterprise Operating System 32- bit (x86)

I bought an OS for nothing! Please help me Microsoft!!! I want to use my Windows 8.1 normally. Fix Please!!;((((

Hi,

Thank you for an update on the issue.

As suggested earlier, you can contact Acer or Intel support center for further assistance on the issue as the graphics card doesn't look compatible with Windows 8.1. (Refer to the links that were provided on the previous post).

Please feel free to ask more queries on Windows.

We can just add this works very good in GMA 3600. And we did this in Asus X101CH which we had downloaded the latest driver from Intel, Datum: 23/10/2013, Ver. 8.14.8.1096 and after we used 1024x768 but the text size was a little bit small so we put it to 125% instead of 100%. In Office Word/Excel we used 75%, in IE we used 100% as we discovered when we put 125% in advanced under display it even changed the IE to 125%. Else it works good and no crashes so far. We also updated under Device Manager/Monitors to Digital Flat Panel 1024x768 as it was 1280x1024 and after the display was better sharpness. In the Intel Graphic Properties also you can now set 800x600, 1024x600 and 1024x768 and it is easy to go back to 1024x600. We will test to install Windows 10 and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply - Windows 10 is useless without Intel or manufacture support and  a waste of a good computer to try and use - without drivers.

I think Windows 8 to Windows 10 is ugly and not as good as Windows 7. Windows 7 is an improvement over Window XP every thing is neat and stored away like XP yet with Window 7 there is more to use. Windows 8 to Windows 10 is like the new computer with bloatware not enough space for what I really need and nowhere to store what I do not need at the moment therefore no space for the things I use often therefore not as good as Windows 7.

If both of your problems are caused by opening any modern apps and it showing a dialog about screen resolution being too low then the solution is:

           Press Win+R

           Type regedit

           Press Enter

Click Edit Next to where it says File

           Click Find

           Type Display1_DownScalingSupported

When it finds Display1_DownScalingSupported Press Enter and in Value data type 1 overwritting the

    existing 0

           Press Enter again to confirm

Press F3 and repeat until no more Display1_DownScalingSupported are found

           Restart your PC

Get to the desktop and you'll be presented with new resolution options on Screen Resolution Menu

Now to the reason that lead me to comment this in the first place, i today got an update for my intel gma 3150 drivers that fixed the need for the "hacks" above and that might also fix you gma 3600 problems.
