    Hello,

I am having the same issue. I was running windows 8 for several months before and no problem. It has been 2 days that I had to format my computer and reinstall windows 8.1 and it has ever since started to shut down every 1 hour, precisely. I have tried all that you suggested and on my System log I can see several errors prompted.

I don't know what else to do and this is really annoying. Please advise.

    Best Regards,

    Camila

    Hi

Welcome to Microsoft Community Forums and thank you for posting your query on it. We are glad to assist you with your Windows related issues.

You have mentioned that your computer just turns off automatically after an hour. I would like to ask some questions regarding this issue.

    1.       Are you getting any error message while it turns off automatically?

    2.       Does this happen when you leave the computer idle for 1 hour or does it happen even when you work on it?

    3.       Have you made any recent changes in the power settings of the computer prior to this issue?

    4.       If this happens even while you work on the computer, then does it happen when you work with a particular program?

Let’s first run the automated Power Troubleshooter and check if that resolves the issue.

Method 1: Run the automated Power Troubleshooter

This troubleshooter is an automated Windows 8 inbuilt tool which finds and fixes the common issues with the Power Settings in the computer. Perform these steps to run this tool and check if that helps.

    a)     Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.

    b)     Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”.

    c)      In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.

    d)     Click on “Power”.

    e)     Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.

    f)      Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Method 2: Check the current Power Plan selected for Windows 8 in the computer.

I would suggest you to check the power plan selected in the computer. Try changing the current power plan and check if that resolves the issue.

You may refer this article to know on how to change the power plan in the computer.

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply with the answers to all my questions.

To proceed further, let’s first check if the issue happens when you boot the computer in safe mode. For this, I would suggest you to follow these instructions.

Check the issue in Safe Mode and perform a Clean Boot.

Step 1: Boot the computer in Safe Mode and check if the issue persists.

In Windows, we can start the computer in different advanced troubleshooting modes to find and fix problems on the PC. One of such troubleshooting mode is Safe Mode. Here we start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services. Please refer the steps in this link to boot the computer in safe mode:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

If the issue does not occur in safe mode, then you may perform a clean boot on the computer to check if the issue is caused by any software conflicts. This might resolve the issue.

Step 2: Perform a Clean Boot and find out which application/service is causing this issue.

A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts and to determine what is causing the problem. Perform a clean boot on the computer by following the steps given in the link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Follow all the steps given in this link and try to figure out the application or service causing this issue.

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, refer the article “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot” for Windows 8, given under the section “More Information” to reset the computer to start as usual from the above link.

If the issue persists, I would also suggest you to post the Event Viewer Log details in your reply for further diagnosis of the issue and to figure out its root cause.

To Open and View the Event Viewer Logs, follow the steps given below:

    a)       Type "Event Viewer" from the Start Screen and press “Enter” on the keyboard (If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, then type the password or provide confirmation.)

    b)       Click an event log under the “System” category from the left pane of the window.

    c)       Double-click an event related to the error that you had and copy the details.

Hope this is helpful. Please feel free to get back to us if this issue persists with all the information or if you have any further queries or issues related to Windows.
