Desktop PC has Intel Q9400 Quad CPU, 8 GB RAM and has been running legal, activated Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center OS for six months without issue.
Today after running Windows Updater, Windows 8.1 Update KB2919355 did not become available. KB2919442 was installed successfully.
After multiple "Restarts," KB2919355 still was not available.
Downloaded the files: Windows8.1-KB2919355-x86.msu, Windows8.1-KB2932046-x86.msu, Windows8.1-KB2937592-x86,.msu, Windows8.1-KB2938439-x86.msu, and Windows8.1-KB2934018-x86.msu from the Microsoft Download Center.
While trying to run Windows8.1-KB2919355-x86.msu, the install process failed providing the message: "The update is not applicable to your computer."
Multiple "Restarts" and re-install efforts produced the same result over three hour period.
What is causing this problem? How can it be resolved?
Thank you in advance for any assistance resolving this issue.
P.S. The PC is privately owned by one individual.
P.S.S. The following is from my response to Jose on April 12, 2014.
The browser is IE 11 with latest update.
"The only external devices connected to the PC were a MS keyboard, MS mouse, and HD monitor.
I had updated my laptop the day before without any issues.
Prior to posting, I had already downloaded the files required for a manual install of the update on two separate instances; and saved them to two different locations on my local hard drive. I also printed the MS installation instructions from their website.
Attempts to manually update were done while connected to the Internet.
Attempts to manually update were done while not connected to the Internet.
Both methods were repeated multiple times after "Restarts" and after full computer shut downs with about twenty minutes elapsed before turning the computer back on. After a full scan by Windows Defender, the shut down and turn back cycle was repeated.
Repeatedly, I checked the Windows Update to see if the Win 8.1 Update was available. It never was. This is why I was attempting to install the update manually.
None of the attempts were attempted with either Windows Defender or Windows Firewall disabled.
(Note: The MS installation instructions did not reference disabling them. Not a bad thought though.)
All without success; and receiving the same message noted above. ("The update is not applicable to your computer." Edited by Az Grog today, April 23rd.)
Prior to checking for new responses this morning, (April 12th - (Edited by Az Grog today, April 23rd.)) I checked the Windows Update to see if the Win 8.1 Update was available. It was.
An attempt to install the first update file KB2919355 manually failed with the same message. ( "The update is not applicable to your computer." Edited by Az Grog today, April 23rd.)
An attempt to install the update from Windows Update resulted in a successful conclusion.
Why it took MS nearly 24 hours to provide the update through Windows Update; or why their manual install process continually failed, is beyond my understanding.
Hopefully, others will not be so affected."
Note: A couple of days later when I updated my wife's laptop from win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro, the Update 1 for Win 8.1 Pro did not become available until the following day after the update to Win 8.1. My said she has read on the Internet
that it has taken up to a week for the Update 1 to become available to some people.
Someone once said "Patience is a virtue." It seems reasonable to believe that this is one virtue which is acceptable to Microsoft.
