This is coming up on my Dell Inspiron laptop all the time.

I am running Windows 7

It won't uninstall from control panel. I don't even use the programme.

Can anyone advise why it keeps coming up and how to stop it from appearing.

I had not seen this reply from you when I wrote my first post.  If your uninstall attempt is generating a runtime error then it implies that DataSafe is not merely installed but it is actively monitoring your computer for things to backup.  This also explains why it is sometimes generating those has stopped working messages.

Start DataSafe and look through its settings to find out what you have it doing in the background.

While you are in DataSafe you can check its Help file for instructions on making the DFIR USB backup I mentioned before.

My own version of DataSafe was from 2010 so the interface might have changed since then.  In my version, I selected the button labelled Backup on the left-hand side of the window and then selected Create recovery media.  That started the one-time process of backing up the DFIR partition onto USB [or DVD but USB should be more reliable].  The Help system should explain that better than I can as I removed the utility several years ago [but have retained the DFIR USB backup].

    Fraser,

Don't uninstall Dell DataSafe Backup Local without first going to the Dell user forums to see if you can fix the fault instead.

Dell Community - Forums - Laptop

Once it is uninstalled, you will not be able to make a USB backup copy of your Dell Factory Image Restore [DFIR] partition.  Without a USB backup copy, you will not be able to restore the computer to its factory condition if you have to change your hard drive.

If you have already made a USB backup copy of your Dell Factory Image Restore [DFIR] partition then uninstalling Dell DataSafe Backup Local is a viable option.  But be aware that you will probably never be able to reinstall it - your uninstall decision may well be irreversible.  You will also find this topic discussed in the Dell user forum.

If you have already uninstalled it then your best precaution against eventually having to replace the hard drive would be making an image of the whole disk including the DFIR partition.  Backup applications such as Acronis TI are useful for this sort of job.  Windows 7 own imaging facility is not very good when it comes to restoring images to new drives.

Simple.  Go to Control Panel, Uninstall a program.  Find and remove the program.  There are several other Dell backup programs installed there as well.  If you are not using them, remove them.
