Original Title: Windows Install and diskpart, can't find SSD.  However, the BIOS sees it

I have an Asus Transformer Book Trio and I am trying to install a new SSD in it.  I am attempting to do a fresh installed of Windows 8.1 Pro, but I am have problems with seeing the ssd in windows install.

I have tried the diskpart solution with a "clean", but diskpart can't even see the drive.

I can see the model number and everything in the BIOS.

I have put it in two different desktops and I can see it fine in both of those.  I have done a "clean" in diskpart on those, put it back in the laptop and it still can't see anything.

The HDD that the laptop came with boots fine.  It's sata.  I can see it in the install and everything, just can't see the ssd.

The sata operation is set to ACHI.  I dont' have an IDE option.

Any ideas?

I've got a similar or the same problem:

    DELL XPS 13 (9350).

    Windows 10 Creation Tool

    Boot from USB

Unable to reset your pc. a required hard drive is missing.

Today I've been to my university's IT department. At a certain point the SSD showed up in diskpart, then

    we could clean it.

However, W10 didn't work after the installation so I'm facing the same problems again.

Now: diskpart -> list disk -> only the USB shows up

What about BIOS? Do I have to check or uncheck Legacy or UEFI in some way?

Also I copied and unzipped the DELL drivers for the SSD onto the USB on which the W10 Creation Tool ist like DELL

asked me to but this time it doesn't work and again, diskpart doesn't access the SSD.

    Hello,

I can understand the inconvenience you have experienced.

As per description disk part is unable to see the SSD drive.

You may face this issue if the installation media is corrupt or there might be some issue with the hard drive itself.

I would suggest you to run the Chkdsk command to check if there is any corruption with the hard drive.

Boot form the disk and run the chkdsk.

    a) Insert the installation DVD or USB and boot Windows 8.1 from it.

    b) In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the ‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the      ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’. ****

    c) Click on ‘**Repair your computer’**and select ‘Troubleshoot’.

    d) Click on ‘Advanced options’ and Select Command prompt

    e) In Command prompt, type Chkdsk /f /r and press enter.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows.

    Hello,

Thank you for your quick reply,

I would suggest you to format the SSD hard drive and check.

To format the SSD drive you have to connect the SSD drive with the other computer.

Once you connect the SSD drive with the other computer, you can format the hard drive using Disk Management.

Follow the steps to format the SSD drive using Disk Management.

    1. Press Windows key + X
    2. Click Disk Management
    3. Right click Hard disk and click Format.

Once the SSD drive got formatted. Check if Disk part is able to see the SSD drive.

Boot from 8.1 USB and go to Repair console > Command Prompt (Hit enter after each line)

    diskpart

    list disk

select disk x (x = being the disk number of your SSD)

    clean

    create partition  primary

    active

    format fs=ntfs quick

    assign

    exit

I would suggest you to login to any other computer and create a Windows 8.1 installation USB drive. Using that USB drive you can perform the troubleshooting methods given below.

Refer the link to create the installation disk:

How to create installation media for a PC refresh or reset:

Contact your computer manufacture for the product key.

I have tried this already as well.  It can't find the disk in windows install still.

I took the SSD out of the laptop and put it in another computer to do a chkdsk on it.  I did the fix and recover.  There were no errors on the disk and windows install still can't find the ssd.

Unfortunately the only way to install fresh copy of windows is to use the usb method since it does not have a cd-rom drive.  I have done a few download from microsoft through the mediacreationtool and upgrade assistant.  None of the iso have proved to work.  Or maybe they are all corrupt and I just had really bad luck.

    Any other ideas?
