Error code 0x80071A90

So I have this issue that's making me almost foam out the mouth. I would like to ask you in advance to lack copy and paste answers. I understand that many Microsoft fellows have a clipboard with generic responses, but if this were generic it wouldn't be an issue, and if the fifty or so Microsoft pages had displayed anything of use I wouldn't include links.

When using the menu "turn windows features on or off", my computer allows me to install all of the options, by which point it tells me "the function attempted to use a name that is reserved for use by another action", by which point it sends me to a lackluster set of Microsoft solutions.

Before you jump from your seat, I have all of my updates. I have every basic, required Windows necessity. (Adobe, Java, Silverlight, Media Player, Paint. You say it, I've got it.)

The first is group policy editor. I don't use Windows 8.1 Professional. I use Windows 8.1 Home.

The second is a rescue disk. I literally have never had one.

The third is to reinstall windows, which, is essentially nuking the pancake in terms of sheer data lost and price cost. I bought my computer in a store and I don't have windows 8 on a disk.

The fourth is the "windows update site", which every single one of you, no offense, have left a derelict link to. Amongst those links were an army of generic copy paste responses that sent me wheeling in fury. You would imagine that after it was "so helpful" and "used for Windows 8", Microsoft wouldn't toss both the question and the site used for an answer in the garbage like stale pasta.

The fifth, god help the person responding to this madness, was this:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

The fix it button is worthless, huge surprise. It gives me a random error it "fixed", and then says job done. No. All of the no. It fixed nothing. Also, even for somebody who's first computer was run on DOS, those directions after that "fix it" button are ridiculous.

Last is sfc /scannow.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8\_1-system/microsoft-windows-unified-telemetry-client-files/98099e5d-0965-44e4-8efa-36baec134738

I did that, and it told me that I was missing some Windows update registry files.

I was like 'Kay.

Then I found this site through search, after asking 5 forums and looking through google, ask, bing and yahoo, which lead me to Winthruster:

http://www.solvusoft.com/en/errors/runtime-errors/microsoft-corporation/microsoft-update/80071a90-microsoft-update-error-code-80071a90/

It provided an incredible amount of information on what was happening. Apparently it's a registry error, but with a catch. Their program displayed some intelligence, but I remain unconvinced. I don't trust programs like ccleaner, and Winthruster, despite it's "Microsoft seal", among other things, it still wants money from me and I refused.

What do I do? This is ridiculous. I've asked for help on every forum I can find. I even asked 4chan /tech/, which is literally like the casino of internet help.

Please help.

    Hi Devon,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

As there were errors in the SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the reply posted by “sidv88” from this thread to repair the component store and check if this helps.

    Hi Devon,

I would like to let you know that you can refresh your PC without deleting any of your personal file.

The applications you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. You will have to reinstall those applications once again after the refresh. However, Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows Store will be reinstalled.

    Article for reference.

How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

Important: Apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

Important: All of your personal files will be deleted and your settings will be reset. All apps that you installed will be removed. Only apps that came with your PC will be reinstalled.

You'll be asked to choose whether you want to erase data quickly or thoroughly. If you choose to erase data quickly, some data might be recoverable using special software. If you choose to erase data thoroughly, this will take longer but it makes recovering data less likely.

It is better if you back up the data before performing “Reset”.

Keep us informed to help you further.

    It still persists.

Does it mean anything that 6800 and 0x80071A90 are the same error?

This is very frustrating. Somebody at Microsoft has to have an answer to this.

I tried that. It's the wrong error, and none of it worked.

Even when I tried what Anubis said, Windows Update "solved" error 0x80070490 and something miscellaneous, then I did DISM and every time I did it it produced an error.

DISM /scanhealth said that there were "no corrupted registry files" in both CMD and Powershell.

the rest gave me errors or froze my system after awhile.

    Then I found

    http://www.askvg.com/how-to-install-microsoft-net-framework-3-5-offline-in-windows-8-without-internet-connection/

    The function got to 100%!

    Then this happens:

    Error 6800:

This function attempted to use a name that is reserved for another transaction.

The same error as from before but with a different code attached to it.

I don't know if it will help digest this issue any better, but when I open "add or remove programs", I recieve an absurd amount of lag. It's happened once or twice that windows just "stopped working" (gave me a little flashy window saying "windows is not responding" before closing itself) and leaving me at a black screen.

I wish I had some sort of answer. I really do try to take care of my computer...
