Remove a Partition From external Hard Drive

Anonymous

I just purchased a 500 gb external USB HDD. It has a small partition of 400mb that I want to combine with the other partition to have one partition. The small partition is reported as a CD drive and UDF file system and has data. The large partition is a NTFS.

What is the best way to delete the small partition? Can I or should I do it form Disk Management?

Thanks,

James

You can simply go to the disc management and extend volume. It automatically add up the partitioned. Simple and no stress...

The recovery cd/dvd set came with the system. Not sure if I'm going to do it, yet. The first screen that comes up when I boot is a blue HP screen with what keys to press for say Recovery, Setup and the like. So, I'm not sure what will happen if all that is gone when I remove the partition.

Before you do anything with the recovery partition you should create the recovery cd / dvd set - even if you have created an Backup Recovery using the Win7 Tool

The HP support or documentation pages will detail how to do this.

Actually the UDF drive the "Delete Volume" is grayed out. I had to get WD Smartware manager to only hide the partition. Not sure what else I can do to comletely delete the volume.

Also, on my HP computer there is a recovery partition on the same disc as my OS I would like to reclaim. If I right click on the recovery partition and select "Delete Volume" this space will automatically get added to the volume of the OS partition?

It's sort of nice having a recovery partition but I just discovered that Windows 7 Home Premium has a Backup and Recovery. I'v created an image and a recovery disc on my cd drive.

    Hi,

That’s right you can do this from Disk Management.  Before you delete this partition you are recommended to make a backup of your data as it will delete all the data.

Refer to the article below for steps and additional information.

    Delete a hard disk partition

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Delete-a-hard-disk-partition

After you delete the partition you can repartition the hard drive.

Can I repartition my hard disk?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Can-I-repartition-my-hard-disk

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks and Regards:
