Samba Share and Windows 7

Hi friends,

I have ASUS RT-AC51U router and I have created a Samba share on the hard disk attached to USB port of this router,

My laptop running Windows 7 (and connected to above router) can see the share under "Network" - I can also read/write to the folders/files when guest login is enabled for my share.

Problem start when I enable user/password login for my share - My Windows 7 can still see the Samba share and list all the folders under "Network" However I am not able to open the folders when I supply my user/password (Samba share user/pwd is different from my Windows user/pwd) in the dialog box

The error am getting is  that I do not have the permission to use  this network resource

I have tried to enter my user/pwd combinations as follows and all these do not work-

  1. user-name/pwd
  2. workgroup-name\user-name/pwd
  3. router-ip\user-name/pwd

Thank you in advance for reading and replying to this post.

    Hi Nitin,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

This issue may occur if the permission setting is incorrect. To troubleshoot this issue, please refer to the following steps:

First, if any firewall or anti-virus program is installed, please disable it:

    Step 1: Change Workgroup settings:

    1. Please make sure these machines are in the same workgroup:

To change workgroup settings, please refer to the following steps:

    1. Click the Start button, right click on Computer in the right pane and choose Properties.
    2. In the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings section of the System window, click Change settings.
    3. On the Computer Name tab of the System Properties dialog box, click Change.
    4. In the Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box, type the name of the workgroup being used by the other computers on your network in Workgroup, and then click OK.

If the issue persists, please refer to step 2:

    Step 2: Advanced Share Permission

    1. In Windows 7, right-click the shared folder and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Sharing tab, click Advanced Sharing. Check Share this folder box.
    3. Click Permissions button, Click Add.
    4. High light the account which you want to share this folder to (Account name which will access the folder), then check the Allow box for Full control.
    5. If the account name is not list, please click Add button. Type Everyone and click OK.
    6. Click everyone in the user list, and check the Allow box for Full Control in the "Permissions for Everyone" pane and click Apply, click OK.
