latest USB mass storage device driver version for windows 7 64 bit

My Windows 7 Pro 64 bit  Toshiba laptop has USB storage drivers with a date of 2006. I get an error "USB device unrecognized" or something to that effect.

Did MS fail to update these drivers since 2006? Windows updates suggests that the drivers installed are up to date.

Really?

    Hello,

Have you attempted to actually download any updated drivers?

Your system's drivers are written by the manufacturer of your PC, and not by Microsoft. What is the full make and model of the PC's you are using?

You'll want to go to your computer manufacturer's website, search for your specific model, and download the drivers there.

If you are having issues with the drivers for a particular product, like a printer or an external hard drive, you will want to go to that manufacturer's site and download the drivers directly from there.

This is incorrect information. The USB Mass Storage Device Drivers are provided by Microsoft. They are Digitally Signed by Microsoft. And they are dated 6/21/2006 in Windows 7 (x64).

So where are updated Microsoft USB Mass Storage Device Drivers?

Found the problem.  For some strange reasons, a few files in the C:\Windows\inf directory went missing, 2 of those was usbstor.inf and usbstor.PNF.  What I did was to copy the C:\Windows\inf directory from my properly functioning laptop to this problematic computer (skipping all existing files) and it resolved the problem.

Weird though, I never deleted anything from the INF directory, not sure how those USB Mass Storage driver files went missing in the first place.

    3)       What is the complete error message you receive?

    4)       What USB (Universal Serial Bus) device are you using?

Your response was not helpful. The issue has been since I installed Windows 7 Pro.

Troubleshooter does not update the device driver.

USB drivers are dated from 2006, long before the release of windows seven. Windows update says the drivers are up to date.

Is the last time Microsoft updated drivers in 2006?
