Hi ! I`ve got a problem. I was trying to install a game, Smite , but the installation process was interruped by this "Your video card does not support shader model 3.0". My laptop  is running Windows 8.1 and the GPU is Nvidia Geforce 840m. I updated all the drivers but it still shows me that.  What should i do ?

    Hi Marian,

Thank you for your quick update on the issue.

As per your model no. of the ACER notebook, I have been able to find two VGA drivers for your system model. Please try to update drivers from the following link and check if it helps.

For more information, narrow down drivers for your ACER model on the following link:

    Minimum requirements for Smite..

Your notebook NVidia 840M is no gaming card EVEN THOUGH some games will run on it.

The minimum is a NVidia GeForce 8600S. Contact NVidia to find out the differences..

I apreciate your quick answer. But I don't think that is a hardware incompatibility because other games were  working until I updated the drivers. Shall be a possible solution to try installing again the original drivers from the Acer's website ? If this might be a solution I look forward for your help.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire E15 and the model is E5-572G-58KY.  And about your secound question, no, I updated the drivers from Nvidia website.

    Hi Marian,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I can imagine the inconvenience you are experiencing and will certainly help you in the right direction to fix the issue. However, I would appreciate if you could answer a few questions to narrow down the issue in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. What is the make and model no. of your laptop?
    2. Have you updated your drivers from manufacturer's website?
    3. Have you tried installing the game in another system and faced this issue earlier?

The issue might arise due to hardware incompatibility of the graphics card installed in the system or if the latest definitions of the drivers need to be installed. If you are running graphics from an integrated video card from NVIDIA or if this card is from an older version of the series, I would suggest you to consider upgrading your graphics card. Furthermore, I would recommend contacting your laptop manufacturer's support or NVIDIA support for further assistance on the display card's compatibility with the software.

Hope this information is helpful. Please write back to us with the asked information if you need assistance in updating the driver, we'll be glad to assist you.
