Intel HD Graphics Driver via Windows Update

Getting error 0x800F0244 during Windows Update when it wants to update my Intel HD Graphics Driver on my computer which runs an NVidia driver for my discreet GTX 750 card.

I have updated the driver from a driver found on the Intel website, here

However, WU still wants to install this driver after checking for updates.

Error 0x800F0244 is listed on Microsoft Website as

- SPAPI_E_SIGNATURE_OSATTRIBUTE_MISMATCH<br>- 0x800F0244 The software was tested for compliance with Windows Logo requirements on a different version of Windows, and may not be compatible with this version.

I have already cleared the SoftwareDistribution folder at least twice, the update will not go away.  I have since hidden it.

BTW, I have a 3rd generation (Ivy Bridge) i5-3570K processor on this machine.  I have 2 other machines with Intel processors (a Sandy Bridge Celeron with no discreet graphics, and a Haswell Refresh Pentium G3258 with a Radeon HD 7750 discreet card) all running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, and I haven't seen this update yet for those.

Edit:  same update appeared for my Celeron machine as well.  I hid that too.

The update is not flawed... the WSUS database was incorrectly updated with this update, as well as updates for other IG driver versions., all of which do not apply to the IGs it says it is applicable for.  This could be due to a myriad of reasons, from missing install files [corrupted install package] to checksum mismatches.

component cleanup and restorehealth don't eliminate the issue, as it's not a problem with either... someone who handles WSUS, more likely than not, accidentally pushed an update that doesn't apply to the WSUS database.  Therefore you could even do a clean install and the update will still show up.

Why this is even an issue is really beyond comprehension... simply hide the update.

Too many are missing the obvious here...

    Who manufactures your CPU? Intel.

So why would anyone believe any third party over Intel?  Does any third party manufacturer a driver for the CPU's integrated graphics? No.

It's common sense... verify what driver version is installed and compare that to the most recent driver version on Intel's support site.  Are they the same? Yes.

Here's how to fix the problem:

HIDE THE UPDATE ---> human error occurs occasionally

The driver version is not the install version Intel specifies for the download... you have to download the zip (or .exe and find the folder in the user's temp folder) and verify the driver version via one of the txt or ini files contained within.

    Linney,

I believe this is the post you are referring to from:

    Windows 8.1 update fails.

I know this issue has been quite confusing for all concerned, its OKAY. I brought it over here too:

    Hi,

I thought since you have a MS Engineer involved you would get this advice BEFORE Clean Install BUT I was WRONG!!!

W 8.1 Pro(I have never used home) has many advantages and tools under the hood that are not available or as advanced as in 8.1:

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I use Powershell (ADMINISTRATOR) but CMD prompt  (ADMINISTRATOR) will work as well. Run these 2 alternately several times. Between the 2 of them they will do wonders in cleaning up your W 8.1 Image.

I use SpinRite by Steve Gibson but MS CHKDSK also works to checkout a problem disks.

Do a /? or -? or PS Get-Help 'Command' -full to get detail info about how to use these 'Commands'

    Additional:

In conjunction with MS Cleandisk use the following when you have your Image clean:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

To easily get into "Safe Mode" set up a Boot Manager so you get a boot request at Logon. I use EasyBCD by NEOSmart Technologies which is free for personal use. UFEI is another matter which I don't use but there is a Boot Manager Setup app for it too.

Once you have your boot request at logon, you can do F8 to access the default Image tool list.

Another way in EasyBCD to access Safe Mode alone:

Advanced Settings>"Change ADD Name to" Name of your Safe mode>Advanced>Safe Mode=safe mode> leave the rest default unless you KNOW!

You could set none signed drivers if you want.

As far as Recovery is concerned:

I do setup MS Recovery manually but is is involved. You do need an ISO as well. The latest W 8.1 ISO MS released was released in November which includes the last massive rollup. This is why I version: W 8.1.3 Pro. It is important to search for this and download it.

Mostly I use 3rd Party Paragon Hard Disk Manager Profession(or Suite). There is a free version that I used a long time until I wanted the more advanced features.

I take regular Image backups of my OS disk which can recover me back to the best working Image, in a more reliable way. I keep 2 or 3 available.

I hope you see this before you do a Clean Install.

    All the best,

    Crysta

PS. For Security I only use MS "Windows Defender"(Security Essentials in W 7). It just saves a huge amount problems over all with everything going through an MS FireWall (only as well). All these Security App tests you see, are for Marketing & Sales purposes only, not your over all well being(even the independent? ones?). On top of that there is allot of snake oil and voodoo in the various test suites to Market & sell them. In short you are getting marketed to death, AND NOT NECESSARILY SECURE!

Hope this helps others Linney, :D

    Best Regards,

Happy 4th of July, We celebrated Canada Day yesterday on July 1,

I was reading something last night from an HP Forum that the Windows Update version is flawed and should be ignored.  It suggest that to go to the following intel website to download the current version of the HD3000 Driver x32 or x64.  I verified that this too worked better than my first post.

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24971/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-64-bit

    Hope this helps.
