Xbox 360 Controller for Windows suddenly stopped working. Cannot fix.

On the 4th, I bought a brand-new Xbox 360 controller for Windows. It worked perfectly, great even. I had no issues.

Then, yesterday, it suddenly stopped working.

As in, it was working perfectly fine literally a few hours before, and remained hooked up while I took a break from gaming. When I came back, Windows suddenly showed a 'USB device is malfunctioning' error. I opened up Device Manager, saw the yellow ! symbol, and uninstalled the driver. I then re-installed the appropriate Xbox 360 drivers, but now the controller simply refuses to work.

Its currently detected in Device Manager as a Human Interface USB input device. I have done everything I can think of it get it working again. Uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. Reset at least a dozen times in different ways (such as leaving the controller plugged in, unplugging the power supply, etc.). Finally, since it had been working just fine earlier, I decided to do a System Restore. It just so happened that there was a DirectX update, whose time lined up almost perfectly with when the controller ceased working, which acted as my restore point.

But NOW I can't do a System Restore. I keep getting the error that says it could not complete it properly due to an anti-virus program (Error 80070005) even though I know for a fact that I disabled all my anti-virus. Even when I did it in Safe Mode, I still got the error. I'm going to try a clean boot next, but I frankly don't have much hope after Safe Mode didn't work, and doing System Restore over and over under various conditions since last night has gotten exhausting. I did a SFC /scan, and it claimed to have found corrupted files. However, attempting to restore those files via DSIM caused Error 0x800f0906, which according to my research was caused by a Windows update back in May.

At which point, I finally came here, because it was obvious I had just become far removed from whatever was actually causing my problem.

I'm at my wit's end here, and I need help DESPERATELY. I just want to play my game again. Any advice or assistance I can get would be highly appreciated.
