Hi, I would like to use a greenscreen/chroma key. I know it was possible before, so I was wondering if it is possible now using windows movie maker. I've seen some other replies to this question, but it doesn't give a definite answer. Thanks

You can also do it in WMM 6.0 using Rehan's ShaderTFX which has a Green Chroma transition.

But to do it correctly,  you really need software that supports multiple video tracks. Movie Maker has never supported more than one video track, nor do I expect it to add that feature anytime soon. Remember, the last feature update to Movie Maker 2012 was in 2012, so its unlikely to be changed going forward.

For an inexpensive alternative, look at Nero Video 2015. It can read Movie Maker project files and has a Chroma Key effect that can be applied to make the green screen turn transparent. Then put a different clip (video or photo) on the track below it.

I think you can also do it with DaVinci Resolve Lite which is free! But it is a little more complicated so there is a trade-off.

To be honest, probably never as movie maker is aimed at beginners and those who want to do minimal editing.

Yea, I too would like the chromakey green screen feature avail in MMM 2012 (essentials) rather than having to buy a 3rd party movie maker software.

When can we expect to have this feature?

Although you can't do it in the new versions of Movie Maker, you can do with MM2.6 as you could with classic versions of Movie Maker.... MM2.6 runs on Windows 7 and 8 and doesn't conflict with MM2011 or 2012

    Hi PieNuke,

The Chroma Key feature is not available in the latest version of Windows Movie Maker. If you want this to be available, you can send it as a feature request here:

    Thanks.
