100% disk use and slow response, freezing after startup, happen even after reinstallation

My problem is that after starting up Windows, I can see in task manager that the disk load is at constant 100% with response time of ~800ms to a few thousand ms the speed shown is no more than 1MB/s

and the general performance is very slow, everything takes very long time to load and start

when I look at resource monitor, there is nothing special (sometimes it say avast but of course there is no start up scanning)

sometimes it will become normal after a few minutes (5 to 10 mins) or sometimes the whole machine would become totally responseless and need a reboot

this also happen after windows reinstallation/ resetting to factory default (windows8, i mean wipe everything out and restore from the manufacturer's restoration partition with Lenovo Onekey Recovery), it usually happen after the second time of reboot when I have installed some software on it, the last time it took me 3 to 4 times of while system restoration to make this problem not appearing again,

but recently seeing that windows8.1 update1 is coming, I upgraded to windows8.1, and it come back again!

The last time that it happens is when it suddenly happens, when everything had been normal for a few months and the problem just suddenly appear the next day I turn on the laptop, and I did not do or install anything special immediately before

And when the problem happen, uninstalling all software do not solve the problem

I did virus scanning and also malware scanning with a number of software and all found nothing

I am using Lenovo S410 laptop, Windows 8/8.1 x64, I disabled virtual memory, system restore, hibernation, install windows update regularly

    Hi,

As this issue is occurring after installing few software’s, the issue might be due to some third party programs or some services is causing this issue.

    Method 1:

Step 1: I would suggest you to boot the device to safe mode and check.

Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

    Step 2: Clean boot

If you do not face the issue in safe mode, place the computer in clean boot and check for the issue.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Follow How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot from article KB929135 to reset the computer to normal mode.

Method 2: ****You may also run SFC scan to check if there is any system corrupted files.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us

Also check if there are any errors are listed in Event viewer.

Event logs are special files that record significant events on your computer, such as when a user logs on to the computer or when a program encounters an error.

To open view the logs please follow the steps.

    Press Windows key + W

Type "View Event Logs" on the Start screen and hit Enter.

Hope this information helps. Reply with the status so that we could help you further.

    Hi,

As you told that the Adobe Creative Cloud is causing the issue, I would suggest you to uninstall and re-install Adobe Creative Cloud and see if that fixes the issue.

In my case, I found 100% disk usage in windows 7. I checked the resource monitor, and found out that svchost was using it.

Again, the instance of svchost was hosting the same services as has been mentioned above.

I turned off one service after another till I found out that the program compatibility assistant was causing the high disk usage.

The resource monitor also showed high disk usage while trying to access the Adobe Creative Cloud files. So that fits.

    Thanks for the reply!

    I followed some steps from

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_8-performance/windows-8-keeps-slows-down-to-100-disk-usage-and/cd787f8d-e7b4-4872-aecb-6f0cd15ad94

that someone say it may be the WLAN driver

I have now fixed the problem by uninstalling some of the previous drivers (card reader, Atheros WLAN, bluetooth, Realtek audio, Realtekethernet driver) and then just reinstall the latest audio driver downloaded from Realtek's official site and the latest WLAN driver for win8.1 from Lenovo support site, and disable Superfetch in services.msc and did not uninstall any software or disabled any other startup services/items. it looks like it does not occur again,

I remember that at later stage the one that is using disk load when viewed in resource monitor is the svchost.exe run by the user "system" which provide the following services:

Network connection, network connection broker, Program Compatibility Assistant, WLAN autoconfig, windows driver foundation, superfetch......

I would try your fixes next time if it occur again
