Mouse Lag and performance issue while playing Halo 2

I was cleaning out my attic when I found my Halo 2 disc copy for the PC. For fun, I put it on my computer. It runs well on full high settings except for the mouse lag. I understand that it is because I have a computer that is well beyond the recommended system requirements.

I also understand that the fix is to turn vsync on in NVidia control Panel/Catalyst. Only problem is that I have an intel graphics card and there is no graphics control panel.

I also know that adding something along the lines of "-vsync" at the end of the shortcut should turn vsync on. It doesn't.

I am running win 8.1 Intel HD graphics 4400. I am also running it with compatibility mode for Vista sp2. I have tried it with compatibility mode on and off. Same outcome.

Is there a control panel that I can download from Intel or will I have to use a 3rd Party Control Panel?

Thanks for all the answers in advance

It runs well on full high settings except for the mouse lag.

By "lag" you mean the game is running smoothly and frame rate is also good, but you are not able to aim or turn quickly using mouse, mouse pointer is really slow, right?

    Hi all,

Thank you for all the answers that you gave me, however none of them worked. I still have not fixed the issue yet, however I did manage to get the intel graphics control panel onto my computer, which did not have it already.

I got the instructions from reddit

    1. Got to https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
    2. For "Select a product family", select "Graphics Drivers"
    3. For "Select a product line", select "Laptop graphics drivers"
    4. For "Select a product name", this will vary depending on your model. If you have an i3 model select "4th Generation ... Graphics 4200", i5 model select "4th Generation ... Graphics 4400", i7 model select "4th Generation ... Graphics 5000"
    5. Click Find
    6. Click on the first driver link (make sure it says "64bit" at the end)
    7. Click on the second driver download link to download the zip version of the driver (exe version won't work)
    8. Once downloaded, extract the zip
    9. Open Device Manager (can be found by right-clicking the start button or searching for it)
    10. Expand "Display Adapters"
    11. Right-click "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family"
    12. Click "Update Driver Software..."
    13. Click "Browse my computer for driver software"
    14. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
    15. Click "Have Disk"
    16. Click "Browse"
    17. Find the zip folder you extracted earlier (win64_15367, or something similar)
    18. Open the "Graphics" sub-folder
    19. Select the "kit64ics.inf" file and click Open
    20. Click OK
    21. Click Next and the driver should begin installing. Note: Your screen may flicker on and off a few times during the installation process, this is normal.
    22. After the driver has finished installing, reboot your Surface

The good news: I have the intel Graphics Control Panel

The Bad news: I do not think there is an option for vsync, however there is an option for specific program profiles.

Hopefully We will get to a solution soon.

    Hello Milan,

Thank you for the Update on this issue.

I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Note: System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

After installing all the pending updates, please try to run DISM Windows image scan and restore health command.

    Following are the steps:

    1. Press Windows + X, select Command Prompt (admin).
    2. Type, “Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth”(without quotes) and push Enter.
    3. After completion type, “Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth”(without quotes) and push Enter.
    4. After completion type, “Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth”(without quotes) and push Enter.
    5. When finished, it is recommended to restart the PC to configure any updates that may have been affected by this.

If issue still persists please reply with the details of the troubleshooting steps with the result.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues, we’ll be glad to assist you.

I have installed all the updates and I still have the same issue. I also went to the download center and downloaded the graphics card drivers, and when I ran the exe it said that I had all the current drivers installed.
