2016-04-21T07:16:42+00:00 I don't think the guy who asked this question is a developer. he just want to run a old game. plus you didn't solve the Problem, DirectPlay can be easily turned on the program a features option >> Legacy >> DirectPlay

2018-03-11T02:35:11+00:00 So I come onto the official Microsoft help website just to get linked to a YouTube video? Really? How about actually helping people here and give them the answer they need...
In the search bar, type: Control Panel
this will load up the default control panel, if you know other ways to get here then please do so.
Click "Programs"
Click "Programs and Features"
from here on the left hand screen "Turn windows features on or off" click this, this will open a new window, that will take a short time to populate.
Scroll down to "Legacy Features" then select the "Direct Play" option and click on the OK button.
Windows will now install and activate this feature, and done.. and without having to watch an annoying and advert filled video on YouTube and getting the ANSWERS from the website you EXPECT to get them from!

2015-08-22T14:51:40+00:00 I have been pondering use of a paving machine for a new video about my opinion towards consoles
I have been a PC gamer from the 8088 onward, centipede used a software timing loop so in the 80286 the game was way too fast to play
you may need to copy dplay.dll to the game folder

2016-03-15T22:09:16+00:00 Sorry, not familiar with it.
Steam forumssuggest letting Windows update (in case activating DirectPlay may require some extra package that has to be installed via Windows Update) and rebooting. In many cases 'have you tried turning it off and on again' is a ridiculously effective piece of advice.
Overclock forums and the previously posted video suggest turning off Antivirus temporarily for the activation to work. I think this might have the best chance of working. The video also recommended exiting Skype for the activation.
