How do I change permissions to allow me to edit a file under the c:\windows folder?

I am trying to edit the "hosts" file inside my C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc  folder.  I can open the file, edit what I want but it will not allow me to save anything.  This silly win 8.1 won't let me set permissions to me as administrator for this folder so can't get it to let me modify anything.

This was never an issue with win 7. :-(

    Try using the following method.

Windows key, find & right click "Notepad"  --> Run as Admin.

    (Do not close the notepad!!!)

On the same notepad, tab under file, open, C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc folder and modify the Hosts file as desired.

Save it on the DESKTOP.  (It will not allow you to save it directly to the etc folder.)

Copy & Paste the saved text docs from desktop to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc folder

    Hope this helps.

    B.
