Xbox App Game DVR capture save location

Is there not a way to change to location folder for where Game DVR captures are saved to? As far as I know there isn't a way to change the location captures are saved to, just an option to open the folder that recordings are located. I definitely don't want to use SSD space to save lengthy bits of recordings when I have HDDs dedicated to that specifically.

While you can't change the Xbox storage location, it does link to the "Videos" location.  And that you can change.  Right click on the Videos folder under This PC in Explorer and go to properties.  You'll find a location tab and you can move that location to one of your mechanical drives.  Xbox will use this new location since it's looking for the Videos system link.

    how about this?

Change where your Game DVR captures are saved on your PC

Your game clips and screenshots will always be saved in the Captures folder. But you can move that folder anywhere you want on your PC.

    • Go to File Explorer > Videos.
    • Drag the Captures folder where you want it.

I see the issue now. Do you recall how you got in this state?

Also, could you sign into the Xbox app with your Microsoft Account. Go to settings --> Game DVR tab, and scroll to the "Saving captures" section. What does it say in the blank below:

"Save game clips and screenshots in _________"

If you are comfortable editing the registry, there is a way to fix this. From start, type "regedit", click Yes on the UAC prompt. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders.

Here you should see your currently assigned folders for Music, Desktop, Favorites, etc. Look for Captures. If you don't see captures, look for this string: "{EDC0FE71-98D8-4F4A-B920-C8DC133CB165}". The corresponding value for you should be "Z:"

To change it back to default, double click on that row, and in the "Value data" field, replace "Z:" with "%USERPROFILE%\Videos\Captures", without the quotes. Click OK, close regedit, and try recording a new video. It should save it in the Captures folder. Let me know if that worked for you, or we can try something else.

Hi, Just upgraded to Windows 10 and started using the capture feature, excellent great tool you have given me for the PC as it saves me booting up 3rd party software and having to relaunch programs etc. Wonderful idea.

So it all goes onto my SSD on my C Drive, which for me is nearly full. Then I find out, no option to change directory?

What the actual? That is BASIC guys why on earth is that not in the system?! 10/10 feature 0/10 thought.

User is capturing large video files, maybe we should give them the option to not dump it all straight onto the OS drive?!

I'm actually really frustrated that a huge company like Microsoft with all the brains and technical genius you all have completely overlooked this?

Shouldn't have to move the entire Videos folder either, it should just give me the option to redirect.

    Please get this sorted.

    Rich
