Good evening,

It appears that Windows 10 keeps crashing whenever I Alt + Tab out of a game and then attempt to go back in. When I Alt + Tab back in I'm met with a black screen. Then Windows 10 freeze and I can't do anything.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Start game

(2) Alt + Tab out

(3) Do whatever in Windows 10

(4) Alt + Tab back in

>>>Black screen

(5a) Ctrl + Alt + Delete to end process of game

(6a) No clickable buttons in Windows 10 (can't even shut down)

(5b) Ctrl + Alt + Delete

(6b) Shut down (just spins indefinitely and doesn't actually shut down)

This is a on a brand new copy of Windows 10 (not an upgrade). My current specifications are below:

-5930K

-MSI SLI Plus X99 Motherboard

-16 GBs 2800 MHz RAM

-2x NVIDIA Titan X GPUs

-512 GB M2 SSD

-1600w EVGA PSU

Please advise on what is happening and if this will be fixed soon.

I have this problem to. But, in this case I did get the upgrade and I would appreciate it if whoever answers this does not do something useless like copying and pasting instructions that they don't even have a clue if they work or not. Don't put the words systems engineer in a tag next to your name if all you do is copy and paste. You are not a systems engineer. You should be working at Walmart from 11pm to 5am in the morning to be honest. I don't want to be rude but I am so tired of coming here and seeing that someone has a job that I could do better.

My problem is very similar. I have a game from Origin called Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning and the game works but I can't alt tab and apparently I can't even exit the game because each time I do, I get a black screen and absolutely no way to get back to the desktop to even kill the process.

Yea I'm sick to death of this as well. However, I did manage to find a fix that may work for you as it worked for me. It appears that Windows has a problem with v-sync. I would disable v-ysnc globally in the NVIDIA or AMD control panel. Additionally make sure to disable it in game. I can't remember if it's your game is based on CryEngine or not, but if it is then r_vsync = 0 should disable it if you press the tilta key ` to bring up the debug console menu

Again, I'm not sure why the game goes to black screen, but when I used some older drivers it did not crash, but actually dropped the GPU core clock and memory clock to really low levels. This leads me to believe that Windows 10 / GPU is getting stuck at 2D clocks instead of switching back to 3D when you enter the game.

Having kind of the same issue. I don't crash, it just simply refuses to go back to the game. No black screen, just stays on the desktop. I can even hold alt tab and see the game in the small window running.

And none of the copy/paste engineers "solutions" worked.

Windows 10 is such a **** system, downgrade to Windows 7 or stay at Linux. Never had so many crashes as with Win10.

Would this work for other programs as well? Alt-Tab in Windows 10 has been crashing my computer even when switching between Word and Chrome.
