2015-10-04T18:44:45+00:00 Disk Management in Windows 10 can’t always help you to extend system partition successfully. Because the function of Extend Volume is only available when there is unallocated space next to C drive, otherwise the button will gray out. Furthermore, you aren’t allowed to move partition with Disk Management in Windows 10 therefore, if you can’t satisfy the precondition, it is impossible for you to extend C partition. I am facing the same issue. I managed to secure some space in my next logical drive i.e., D drive but the button is still grayed out.

This was not answered; he wanted to know how to extend his OS drive. He did not want to SHRINK it. It is almost one year later and still no answer. Was it solved in one of the updates that are only issued every once in awhile.
Please help sooner rather than later
Microsoft community is good for nothing. They have only 2 options to reply. 1: No reply. 2: Try to reboot your system/ Try to reinstall the OS.... Very supportive... Really...👌💐

2016-10-26T15:07:13+00:00 Post by Munshi Majid Ali helped me resolve my issue. As I had very few files in the adjacent drive ( D: ), I moved them to another drive ( F: ). Delete drive D: to free up space next to C: Voila...!!! I was able to extend C: . Hope this helps.
P.S: Space beside C: was not occupied by recovery like in andynan 's post
