Hello I've reviewed a magnificent amount of forums&fixes but I didn't manage to find my problem.

So i was trying to fix my mum's laptop (DELL Studio 1537)but it was a heck. When turned on it displays the logo of dell, loading bar beneath and at the down-right bottom it says (F2 for setup and F12 for boot menu). After it loads up it just says "Missing Operating System." And that's it.I have a Win7 Ultimate Installation Disc and I tried ANYTHING to get to boot from it but nothing worked. At first i entered the boot menu(win7 disc was inserted)I clicked on boot from CD/DVD and again - Missing Operating System.I also tried to change the boot order so it can boot CD/DVD first but again nothing worked. It just showed "missing os" a bit later.I tried ALL booting orders and booting anything from the boot menu. The only thing that worked(everything else said "Missing OS") was the diagnostics which said sth like "No errors detected".I also tried to change the SATA mode selection, yet nothing once again.I am desperate for a solution :(

It probably means your disk drive is corrupted.  Could even be failing.

Use a System Repair disk (must be the right bitness 32 or 64) to boot the computer.  If you do not have one, find another computer with the right bitness and make one.  Just need a blank CD.  Quick and easy.

    Start globe

    All Programs

    Maintenance

Once you boot to the Repair cd, find your way to a C: prompt alternative.

Type chkdsk c: /r, then Y for yes.

Takes quite a while.  It may fix it.

I am first worried that you are not starting your computer on that repair disk.  You must start pressing the F12 key about once a second as soon as the computer starts.  That should bring up a menu that allows you to choose to boot to the DVD drive.  That should lead you to options that may work.

Your hard drive could be failing, but lets assume not and that it is simply so corrupted it can not begin.

First choice is a Factory Restore

Press Ctrl+F11 during the Dell screen

You will lose everything on the hard drive -- EVERYTHING

It will re-install exactly what was there when you started the computer for the very first time.

If you have data that is not backed up, you need to find someone that can externally mount the hard drive from your computer to another computer and read and copy as much data as possible on to some other media which you will be able to copy back on to your computer once it is re-built.

It is also possible the hard drive hardware itself is failing or has failed.  When you take that drive to someone else with the know how and equipment to copy the data, that person can download the hard drive manufacturer's drive tester software to see if it is failing.  If it is failing and you need to replace....

You will then be forced to do a clean install from your Windows 7 install disk that I hope you got from Dell.  If you did not, you can probably get them to send you one for a small fee.
