I know this is a old post from 2013 but I just noticed I have this same (Google Installer) in my task manager startup.  I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 back when it came out a few weeks ago.  I don't use any of Google services however there is a small chance I viewed a Google map once.   I don't know how I got this in my startup.  Items that are listed in my startup are "Google installer" is listed twice.  "Google Crash Handler" is listed once.  These items are enabled under the status and startup impact is Medium.

    Hi,

Have you made any recent software or hardware changes on the computer?

This may occur due to any recent software updates for Google like any add-ons or toolbar from Google that got downloaded.

You may also get in touch with Google Support and check.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help.

Um I haven't made any recent software changes really, I have updated opera browser, and downloaded google voice for gmail. Could that be the possible culprit?
