I recently purchased a custom built pc packed with windows 8.1 which I upgraded to Windows 10.

I installed Age of Mythology yesterday and when I try to run the game nothing happens. I have tried all compatibility suggestions and I get the same result.

I also have this same problem with black and white 2.

I have a NVIDIA Geforce gtx 980 graphics card installed in my pc.

Can you provide any suggestions please.

Thank you.

Check with Event Viewer, but I guess you are having the same problem as myself and a number of others.

It's the fact that Windows 10 doesn't come with SECDRV.SYS driver, and the one that comes with the game is a 32-bit driver that isn't signed and won't work. This driver is part of the copy protection mechanism on AOM and other games.

The driver was provided with Win 8.1 64 bit, which is why it worked on that platform.

Which all together means that AOM (and other games that use the same copy protection technology) can't work on Windows 10 until Microsoft provide a compatible driver.

To the best of my knowledge, there is as yet no statement as to whether it will ever be supported ...

I just came across an old copy of AOM, still had the CD key on the back. Well I ran into the same troubles as everyone else and looked at the forums. Looks like this has been an issue for a while.

Option 1 to fix: I don't like this option due to the potential security issues that are inherent in secdrv.sys -

You can download the file, and use the digital override signing tool to "self-sign" it. ( The info is out there if you want to do this, just google it, but there are security issues. )

Option 2: Ok this fix is pretty easy, and a remnant of how games were pirated in the old days. Now it is just a good way to fix these issues.

    Here we go:-

    1. Install the game
    2. Go to the installation folder ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology) and run the file "autopatcher.exe" ( This will bring the game up to the final version.
    3. Download this file and extract ( It is a fixed.exe which bypasses the security and need for a CD to play http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=AgeOfMythologyv1.10FixedexeEng.rar
    4. Copy the aom.exe from the downloaded file and replace the one in the game directory.
    5. Done!
    6. Start the game, go to options and change the resolution.
    7. Enjoy :)

Did you even read what the issue was and what others have posted? Or did you simply copy and paste a generic script answer.

Microsoft claims this game is compatible, yet it is not.

Here is the error from the windows logs:

    Event ID 7000

The SecDrv service failed to start due to the following error:

This driver has been blocked from loading

This game uses Safedisc - and Safedisc is not supported on Windows 10

Microsoft - please provide a fix for this issue ASAP.

Ok, yes this is correct. Safedisc is not supported on Windows 10.

    Options:

    * Buy a digital version of the game that doesn't have safedisc (steam has Age of Mythology - Extended Edition, which I've played on Windows 10. Although I won't make a promise it will work on everyone's system)

    * See if Macrovision has a download for secdrv.sys. I haven't seen or tried this but it is an idea.
