Best way to view *.eps files

Hello,

What is the best way to view EPS files in Windows?  Yes, I know you can import into Word but our users want to simply double click an *.eps file and be able to see it.  I have tried a few free apps and some sorta seem to work but have trouble printing. They don't want to spend money on Adobe products if they don't have to;  there is no editing going on here,  just viewing.  Any thoughts are greatly appreciated like why doesn't Microsoft Preview or Paint simply open it?!  Why? (I think I know... but still... why?)  :)

    Hi,

You have your choice of Programs to open them.

EPS files are supported by several different drawing programs and vector graphic editing applications. They are often used as a standard means for transferring image data between different operating systems.

I have used that fileinfo.com site for years and found it about the best around to point one in the right direction.

It has all your "parts of conversations" in one place.

None of us have a say in what Programs open what file extensions.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.  Actually,  you've described parts of conversations I've had several times with folks from a particular department where I work.  We're a medium sized printer (among other things) and essentially all the CSRs need is a quick view of an *.eps file during their hectic days.  (It works great on a Mac but other things they need,  not so much) So I am trying to find a solution that simply allows them to double click it, view it, possibly print it, and move on.  I have found a few freebies that almost work;  some have trouble printing and another had issues where it could open some *.eps files but not others.  The Adobe products and others listed seem like crazy overkill for what they need. I was hoping to find out what the prevailing application was and if it was Adobe products then I guess that's the recommendation. I was just hoping to not have to recommend more pricey licensing.
