"Access Denied" To game

Hey guys, I recently installed Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Gold Edition onto my Toshiba laptop, which runs Windows 10. Whenever I open the program from the shortcut I made, it displays "Access Denied: Please login with administrator privileges and try again." When I open it from the disc, the Start screen (for the game) pops up, but when I click the "play" button, the "Access Denied" message appears again. When I "Run as Administrator" from either the Shortcut or the Disc, the "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC?" message appears, when I click "Yes", nothing happens. I have looked on multiple posts and attempted to resolve the problem by both: Changing the "Owner" of the app in the "Permissions" section of the "Properties" pop-up on the game, and checking the compatibility of the game, which is positive, and I have also checked the 2K site's Civ IV system requirements page. I have changed permissions, which did not work in the slightest. I have also used the Compatibility Troubleshooter on numerous amounts of the .exe files and applications involving the game (Including the game application, itself), but this did not solve the problem, either

I do not have any Windows "Discs", because my laptop came pre-installed with Windows.

I will link the pages mentioned.

The disc version of Civilization IV uses a DRM that doesn't work with Windows 10. (due to security issues concerning the main driver used by said DRM)

If your copy of Civ IV has a CD key you can redeem it on Steam and get a copy of the game that doesn't use the DRM in question. If you don't have a CD key you can still contact 2K Games Support and they'll help you out.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

You may follow the steps provided below and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

**Method 1:**Try taking ownership of the folder (and by "the" folder, I mean any one having an issue). If they are all in one folder, use that one. If it's all of them, start with C:\Users(your username) and work from there.

    To take ownership:

    • Right-click the folder and go to Properties
    • In Properties, go to Security (tab) > Advanced (button at the bottom) > Owner (tab)
    • In the Owner tab, the current owner will be listed. Yours will likely say it's unknown but regardless, if it doesn't say your current username (and if the username is the same, just do it anyway), click Edit (button).
    • Under "Change owner to:" select your current account, check the box next to "Replace owner on sub containers and objects" and click OK. Depending on all that's under the folder, this may take a long time.

After you are the current owner, you should be able to change permissions as you need.

    Method 2: Compatibility mode

Follow the steps below on how to install Game in compatibility mode:

    1. Download the Game from the manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.

    2. Right click on the setup file of the driver and select “Properties”.

    3. Select “Compatibility” Tab.

    4. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.

    5. Let the Game install and then check the functionality.

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you

When I first bought my Windows 8 laptop I managed to play my game, which is the very first version of The Sims. But after updating (not to windows 10), I had this problem as well. I tried changing the owner of the folder, the compatibility of the game and the setup itself, plus the security permissions of the game file. Even after updating to Windows 10 afterwards, I still end up with an "Access Denied: Please login with administrator privileges and try again" message. I don't know what else to do, please help solve this problem!
