Hi,

Database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error 509

In the Event Viewer I got this error MULTIPLE time every single second.  It's going absolutely nuts.

I don't know what to do with this.

I'm with Windows 8 Pro running on a very stable computer with 8gig ram, Lots of hard drive space.  Every single drivers up to date, Windows up to date.  Everything is clean really except this error in the Event Viewer

svchost (1624) SRUJet: Database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error -509.

Task Category : Logging/Recovery

I tried esentutl /p /r /whatever but nothing wrong was found with those

Thank you for any help.

Had the exact same issue, nothing Microsoft recommended was the cause, scannow and DISM commands came back with no errors.

So I went back in the event viewer, and scrolled down to find when these errors started to occur. Then I found a few entries at the beginning saying things like: An attempt to move the file "C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log" to "C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB00008.log" failed with system error 183 (0x000000b7): "Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

I then went in to C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\ and deleted the stated files (e.g. EDB00008.log).

    Bingo, the errors immediately stopped.

Well before you wrote this, I had done many things to find what was causing the problem and it appeared that "Diagnostic Policy Service" was the culprit.  As soon as I disabled it in Services, no more messages in the Event Viewer.

Full scan using Microsoft Safety Scanner in Safe Mode

    Files infected : 0

    Seems not a virus problem.

Now I need an expert to help with this error if possible.

    Thank you

    Hi Manasa,

    Thank you for your help.

Ok I started with the sfc and here's the result.  I'll continue with the Microsoft Safety Scanner as soon as I have some time.  Very busy these days.

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some

of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For

example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not

    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.

    C:\Windows\system32>

    C:\Windows\system32>

    Hi,

I would like to inform you that svchost is usually associated with virus. Hence, the computer might be infected.

Method 1: I request you to run SFC scan and check if the issue is resolved.

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. When the scan is complete, the System File Checker tool indicates whether integrity violations were found. If integrity violations are found, the System File Checker tool lets you fix the integrity violations.

Follow these steps to run SFC scan:

**a.**Press Windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin).

**b.**In the command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

NOTE: This may take a while to finish running.

Method 2: I request you to download Microsoft Safety Scanner, boot the computer in Safe Mode and run a full virus scan.

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started.

Follow the link below to learn how to do so.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

Run a full virus scan and check if the issue is resolved.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free-to-download security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

**Disclaimer:**Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Please let us know the status of the issue.
