I just wanted to add (for future posterity) that I found with my UEFI "BIOS," Legacy devices had to be Enabled before my USB-HDD drive was recognized as an option in the Boot Menu. After that, I just used the Hotkey for the Boot Menu on Startup, and selected the USB-HDD drive (identified by its "brand name"). It was not necessary for me to make permanent changes to my Boot Priority.
How do I boot from a USB on Windows 8.1?
Hey,
I just got a new Dell Inspiron 11 Series Touch.
When I'm booting up, I am offered no way to change boot options or access a boot menu.
I did some research and exploration with mostly fruitless results.
I booted with Advanced Options (via Shift+Restart) but I couldn't get it to boot from my USB.
My USB drive is running a Debian Linux distribution called Crunchbang.
Anyway, I was just wondering how I could boot this without slowing down boot speeds.
Is there any way to do this safely?
Any help would be much appreciated.

2013-12-28T16:11:07+00:00 Hi,
What exactly are you trying to change in boot options or access a boot menu?
You have to make a bootable Windows 8.1 USB drive.
To boot from the USB, you need to make Boor Priority changes in the BIOS. To know more about making changes in the BIOS, refer to the computer manual or contact the computer manufacturer.
Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.
Hope this helps you. Please do let us know if you need further help, we’ll be happy to assist you.
