Use of Super Anti-Spyware and Windows 10

I've been using Windows Defender since having Win. 10 installed. It seemed to be working ok. Recently, my husband wants to run Super Anti-Spyware instead of Windows Defender. We must have a virus (or more than one), and/or some other problems because the computer is running very slowly and overall it is not nearly as efficient as it was after  Win. 10 was installed. In the past we had a problem when we were running Avast (Paid edition), Malwarebytes, and Super Anti-Spyware. Took computer to repair shop. They removed Super Anti-Spyware and Avast and left Malwarebytes and re-installed MSE (we were using Win. 7 @ the time). I tried to speak to the tech who repaired it, but my phone requests were never returned. So I'm confused now as to what covers what, which brands work best with Windows, and how I can figure out what's "bugging" my computer. Also I know that there are still "remnants" of other programs on the computer that were never completely removed. Do you think I should attempt a removal of older programs including my current Win. 10 Home Edition that was automatically installed by MS? Then try to clean install Win. 10? Thanks for your help.

SUPERAntiSpyware is an anti-malware program not an anti-virus. Anti-virus programs generally scan for infectious malware which includes viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkis and bots. Anti-Malware programs generally scan for adware, spyware, unwanted toolbars, browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs and potentially unsafe applications  which are classified differently and do not fall into any of those categories...that is the primary reason some anti-virus programs do not detect or remove them.

As such, SUPERAntiSpyware should not be used to replace Windows Defender which includes both anti-virus and anti-malware protection... and provides the same level of protection against malware as Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) provides on older operation systems.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

There is a possibility that some third  party program is conflicting making your system slow.

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check.

    Method 1: Perform Clean Boot.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. Check this issue in clean boot state.

    1. Press Windows key + X key. And select Run.
    2. Type msconfig in the Run box and hit Enter.
    3. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
    4. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.
    5. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.
    6. Close Task Manager.
    7. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

If issue still persists try method 2,

Method 2. Microsoft Safety Scanner. I would suggest you to perform a full system scan using the Microsoft Safety Scanner to eliminate any issues related to virus/malware.

    Microsoft Safety Scanner http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.
