Important updates are available. Go to PC settings to install.

When I boot up my Toshiba laptop I get the following message: "Important updates are available. Go to PC settings to install." However, when I go PC setting and search for updates it comes back telling me I'm current on updates. The last updates that I received were back in September of 2014. I have the system set to let me know there are updates and that I will perform the updates after I review what updates are available. I know there has to be updates for my laptop available.

This seems to have started when back before Windows 10 was available I selected reserve a copy of Windows 10 by mistake when what I wanted to do was run the program to check to see if my Toshiba would be able to handle Windows 10 since that time I feel that some how this is blocking any and all updates to come through. Prior to that I was getting updates. S how can I undo the Windows 10 reservation  process? I'm just not ready to update to Windows 10 just yet.

I have check the forum and nothing that's listed fits my circumstances.  Help would be appreiciated.

Regards,

John

    Xircal,

I followed the instructions to remove the reservation for Windows 10 that part worked. However, I still have the problem of not receiving updates. So, as it turns out the problem of reserving Windows 10 wasn't the problem after all. I still need to get updates. I go to see if there are any updates and all I'm getting is no updates are available. I know that there has be some updates my Windows 8.1 out there. All suggestions are welcome.

I followed all of the instructions and I'm still not getting any updates. After following the instruction I went to see if any updates were available and this is what happened. I clicked of search for updates and a message came back telling me "There was a problem checking for updates". I clicked on try again and the process started and ran for a long time and then reported there were no updates available. I also suspended my Norton 360 as suggested and still the update process doesn't deliver and updates.

I have tried all of the suggestions given to me and still no updates are available. Anyone out there have any other suggestions?

Run this Fixit to reset the Windows Update components: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

If that doesn't help, run the Windows Update troubleshooter: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-8

If you do run the WU troubleshooter, it will wipe your download history. So when you check in the Windows Update history, it will say "Never". This however is normal and doesn't affect the downloads which have already been installed.

That's a good question. However, there wasn't any error code displayed. I just went back and tried to search for updates and when I clicked on the check for updates button it started the search without and error message.
