liteon drive problems in windows 8.1

bought a Lenovo desktop and the pre-installed Win 8.1 OS doesnt recognize my liteon drive (PLDS 16AFSH) even though it says its working right and the drivers are updated. tried two third party software players and keep getting the error message "no disc in drive D:"

The drive begins to spin up then shuts down. I already added the definition to the registry successfully, but no go. PLDS has no tech support and Lenovo and Microsoft support have been equally useless. Help Please! This makes no sense.

    Hi,

Windows 8/8.1 doesn't support DVD playback natively. You have to download a DVD player like the excellent free VLC player instead: http://www.videolan.org/

More on that aspect here: http://www.zdnet.com/article/no-windows-8-dvd-playback-will-mean-increased-costs-and-consumer-confusion/

If that's not the problem, could you please post the model of your Lenovo desktop because I can't find a PLDS 16AFSH on the Liteon site and need to identify it some other way: http://www.liteonit.eu/en/products/

Can you run a diags check on the following Lenovo site:

    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo-h-series-desktops/lenovo-h50-50-desktop

If there's a hardware issue somewhere the diags check should be able to identify it.

I have a Lenovo H50 Machine type 90B7. It came with the Lenovo Power DVD Software, and I downloaded the DAUM PotPlayer just to be sure it wasn't a lack of third party software that was the problem. Even tried loading a distro of Ubuntu on USB drive to see if the OS had a problem and the drive didn't even show up on the drive list with Ubuntu. I think it is a driver issue but I can't find any drivers more recent than 2012for this drive.
