There are 6 USB ports only one is USB 3. The rest are USB 2. I suspect your issue lies elsewhere

Good morning,
I just got my first Windows 7 64-bit machine, always had 32-bit before. When I tried to plug in my iPhone using the same USB cable I used on my 32-bit machine, iTunes will not recognize the device (the iPhone). After reading the Apple forums, it seems that the USB 3.0 ports on my 64-bit machine may be the issue, so I bought a USB 2.0 PCI Express card and installed it this morning. The card came with a disk of different drivers. But I can't get this USB 2.0 card to install a driver either from the disk or Windows Update.
So now I'm wondering if Windows 7 64-bit and USB 2.0 are even compatible. Anyone?
TIA,
Paula

Seriously? All the USB controllers that came with it show as 3.0 in Device Manager, so I just assumed they all were. How can you tell which are which?
I'll take a look at the link you provided - thanks!

Win 7 64 bit supports USB 3.0 if the hardware supports it. Can you tell us the computer make & model, and the PCI card so we can investigate?
I know it supports USB 3.0, that's what it came with the machine. But apparently my iPhone requires USB 2.0 to sync with iTunes. So that's why I asked if Windows 7 64-bit supports USB 2.0.
But to answer your question, it's a Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 7 64-bit. I just bought the PCI card on eBay, a generic USB 2.0 2-port PCI Express Controller Card. Device Manager shows it physically installed, but I can't get the driver to install which brought me to my question, does Windows 7 64-bit even support USB 2.0.
