bluetooth speaker pairing, but no sound

OS: Windows 8

Asus N56V

Bluetooth speaker HMDX Jam Classic

Dear,

My Bluetooth speaker works perfectly after pairing it, but when I disconnect the speaker and then want to reconnect it later, no sound is coming from the paired Bluetooth audio device anymore unless I reboot.

Never had any problems with my bluetooth mouse.

The Bluetooth speaker:

  • is listed in Control Panel
  • is connected
  • is set up as default
  • has been reinstalled
  • updates up to date
  • Device troubleshooter couldn't identify the problem
  • Control panel > properties device > services: audio sink & remote control

Thanks for looking at this problem!

Hi,

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced.

This issue may be caused by the Bluetooth driver or services.

Here are a few more steps which you can follow:

Method 1:

Check if the Bluetooth service is running.

a) Press Windows Key + R, type services.msc and press Enter.

b) Search for Bluetooth support service.

c) Check if it is started, if not Right click on the service and click on Start.

Method 2:

Reinstall the Bluetooth driver following these steps:

a) Press Windows key + X and select “Device Manager”

b) Expand “Bluetooth” and right-click on the driver.

c) Select “Uninstall”, check marked “delete the software for the device” and select “OK” (after that, you can see there is no “Bluetooth” expansion on "Device Manager")

d) Select “Update Driver Software”.

e) Restart the computer.

Method 3:

Restart Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

Steps:

a. From the Start screen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap or click Settings.

b. Tap or click Change PC settings.

c. Tap or click PC and devices, and then tap or click Bluetooth.

d. Under Bluetooth, tap or click to turn Bluetooth Off, and then tap or click again to turn Bluetooth On.

Thanks, I did wonder if it would fix the issue.

I have since broken my laptop screen out of frustration so it is now used as a desktop PC connected to a screen :-)

I held off doing the upgrade since I can't stand windows 8.x and Server 2012. I am used to using the new MS interface due to my job. I just find everything quicker to do on Win 7 or earlier.......else on Android, Ubuntu, RH or Mint which are also logical and non-hindering.

With Win 8, Server 2012 (and to a much lesser degree, OSX) it's like operating a system while having a small dog nip at your ankles and I just imagine Win 10 will be the same so I am shying away from both upgrading any systems to it and also from buying a new laptop. Also haven't upgrade to a new Mac because they failed to make a touch screen version of Pro or Air,,.......grrrrrr (there's that aggression that broke my laptop screen)

    Hey,

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunate that you had to purchase a dongle just for it to work. You should get a refund from Microsoft. lol

The issue was fixed when I upgraded to Win10. I'm glad it was finally addressed.

Oh dear, it didn't work for me. My laptop shows that the blue-tooth speaker is connected (HP) & even gone through the setting of turn off then on. Everything shows it's connected, playing, discoverable....yet...my HP blue-tooth speaker light doesn't even come on, & definitely no sound coming through. So weird & frustrating!

Opening Audio Manager to try to force the Bluetooth device, I noticed that an extra speaker (headphone icon) had appeared in my Sound Manager. I decided to disconnect and disable the Jam Speaker in Audio Manager and made the new found unnamed speaker default. To my surprise everything now works like it should do.

I'm VERY pleased the Bluetooth speaker finally does what it's supposed to do without issues!

Thank you for your support, very appreciated!!!

Same in Windows 10 as 8.1 for me. For the problem speaker is connected not playing sound, Opening audio manager and just making the speaker the default worked for me on multiple older Bluetooth speakers (the picture says its headphones but has the name of the bt speaker) -  maybe this works like default printers but MS hasn't told us and hasn't given us the option to change sound in whatever program we are in like you can with printers - this needs to be fixed either way.

Note: I didn't have to disable the speaker, in fact when I did I lost it and had to disconnect it and reconnect it again; try first making the speaker the default in audio manager (clicking sound in control panel).
