Battle for Middle Earth II Windows 10?

I own a valid copy of The Battle for Middle Earth II, as well as the Rise of the Witch-King expansion pack. My parents computer used to be Windows 7, and was able to play the game just fine. They also just recently upgraded their Windows 7 computer to Windows 10, and the game still works on their computer even as Windows 10. (The game was already installed from Windows 7 when they upgraded to 10).

My question is I have my own laptop which I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10. I attempted to install and run the games when it was Windows 8, but to no avail. Since seeing the game work on my parents Windows 10 computer, I attempted to reinstall and play the games on my now Windows 10 laptop, but the games will not load correctly. They installed successfully, but keep coming up with "Cannot locate CD-ROM" or "Program has stopped working" error messages.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 15 with i5 64 bit operating system. My laptop does not have a built-in disk drive, so I purchased an external disk drive which has worked just fine for all other purposes. The external disk drive is an LG Slim Portable DVD Writer.

Is it possible for me to successfully run the game(s) on my Windows 10 laptop that work without issue on my parents Windows 10 computer? And if so, what are the steps necessary?

Any help would be seriously appreciated. I love these games, and really hope I can find a way to make them work out on my laptop.

    So far the only reply we've gotten is the canned "Compatibility Mode" response from Microsoft that they put out for every issue with older software.

    Can someone from Microsoft please take a REAL look at this problem and provide a REAL solution rather than a canned response?

    I have it running on my laptop on windows 10.

    what I did was the following. first I created the options.ini in C:\Users\

    "username"\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) II Files

    with the following text in it:

    AllHealthBars = yes

    AlternateMouseSetup = no

    AmbientVolume = 50

    AudioLOD = High

    Brightness = 50

    FixedStaticGameLOD = UltraHigh

    FlashTutorial = 0

    HasSeenLogoMovies = yes

    HeatEffects = yes

    IdealStaticGameLOD = Low

    IsThreadedLoad = yes

    MovieVolume = 70

    MusicVolume = 70

    Resolution = 1920 1080

    SFXVolume = 70

    ScrollFactor = 50

    StaticGameLOD = UltraHigh

    TimesInGame = 54

    UnitDecals = yes

    UseEAX3 = no

    VoiceVolume = 70

    I saved it and then rightclicked on the icon of BFME2 and tried running it with my NVIDIA processor, this worked. The game started. however when I start a game, after 3,5 min of playing all my buildings crash down and armies die. can someone tell me why this keeps happening? and how to fix this problem?

    Greetings B. Mayer

    If you have upgraded your PC to windows 10 and this game was already instaled you likely have not problems. However if you have just recently re-installed this game onto windows 10 you have likely been pulling your hair out trying to find a fix for this game only to get the canned responce about compatibility mode. Which Microsoft seem to FAIL to understand people have come to them to ask if there is a fix because they have already TRIED all the steps in their "trouble shooter" and "updates" and "compatibility mode." So if you are trying to play this game HERE is how to ACCTULY fix it.

    This works for BOTH Battle for middle earth 2 & Rise of the witchking but you will need to put it into the same file in both games files.

    Search for a folder named

    Users > (your user name) > Click View Hidden (this shows the file you are looking for) >  AppData > open Roaming -> My Battle for Middle Earth 2  Files.

    (Do the same again for rise of the Witchking)

    You'll probably find that the folder is empty. If it is, open up notepad and save new file to that folder. It should be named Options.ini.

    In that file, place this data:

    AudioLOD = Low

    HasSeenLogoMovies = yes

    IdealStaticGameLOD = VeryLow

    Resolution = 800 600

    StaticGameLOD = VeryLow

    TimesInGame = 1

    Then save that, and create a new folder named Maps in the My Battle for Middle Earth 2 Files folder.

    If that still fails, delete the data out of the Options.ini file and replace with this:

    AllHealthBars = yes

    AmbientVolume = 81.000000

    AnimationLOD = High

    AudioLOD = Low

    Brightness = 50

    DecalLOD = High

    EffectsLOD = Medium

    FlashTutorial = 0

    GameSpyIPAddress =

    HasSeenLogoMovies = yes

    IdealStaticGameLOD = Low

    ModelLOD = Medium

    MovieVolume = 70.000000

    MusicVolume = 78.000000

    Resolution = 1024 768

    SFXVolume = 80.000000

    ScrollFactor = 64

    SendDelay = no

    ShaderLOD = Low

    ShadowLOD = Low

    StaticGameLOD = Custom

    TerrainLOD = Medium

    TextureQualityLOD = High

    TimesInGame = 59

    UseEAX3 = no

    VoiceVolume = 69.000000

    WaterLOD = Medium

    I DID IT!!! And I dont even know much about PCs lel ^^

    I just read through some posts and everyone was either for the options.ini thing or compatibility mode. Now I saw the driver thing twice (yes I have been looking into this since 2 weeks//I dont have a life) and I checked and I found out that in windows 10 if you right click on BFME2 then you can pick the graphics processing unit (I dunno what its real name is but you`ll notice it) and click on the thing that says change standarized settings.

    Then the NVIDIA setup should open after some time and you should click (in 3D-Settings) on Global Settings. Then select the other one (not the INTEL one). Although this only works on hybrids it is a step closer to VICTORY xD.

    Hope this helped <3
