MSN Weather App with Windows 8.1

MSN Weather App stopped working two days ago.

When it is uninstalled and re-installed it will open the first time only.

Subsequent attempts to open the app result in a black screen.

Followed instructions on Microsoft website such as updating apps and updating sync.

Tried running the apps troubleshooter several times.  The same problem continues.

Why did this happen?  It has always worked fine in the past.

What other solutions are available?

Thank you.

    Thank you!

There is another discussion on this issue in the Windows / Windows 8.1 forum.

I have copied some of the information below in case it may be helpful to others.

It seems many people are having the same problem.

MSN Weather app won't start - Microsoft server issue         http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/profile/4f4bbe20-4f78-4ffe-9551-3950a3baf034

Since 09/28/2015 the Windows 8.1 MSN Weather app won't start anymore. It is stuck at start screen with throbber, no errors in Event Log. It happens on multiple different devices simultaneously with multiple different Microsoft accounts. I have also tried different Internet connection.

It looks like a Microsoft server-side issue that breaks Windows 8.1 compatibility only. There is no fix yet, reinstalling does not help. It works for the first time only but breaks again after you close it and start it.

UPDATE 10/03/2015 - There is workaround that works for some users only: delete single .sqlite file in C:\Users<YourUser>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.BingWeather_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Configuration directory while the application is closed. Read the whole discussion for details.

Please report the issue via the Feedback option in charms bar of the MSN Weather application.

Microsoft still has to fix it !

    Thank you for your response.

I have already tried those suggestions but they do not help in my situation.

I noticed that there are several reports about this issue on the Windows Category Forum of the Microsoft Community.

Some of those posts are asking why there is a problem with the Weather App for Windows 8.1 users and not Windows 10.

Some of those individuals are asking if there is a server problem that requires a patch or update of some kind.

Could you look into this for us?

    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply and update on the situation .

As for the "UPDATE 10/03/2015 - There is workaround that works for some users only"

I think ,I will give that one a miss reasons being  that  I am not messing with my PC when others

in our household's PC's running  8.1 have got the same problem as well.

Also as you state in your reply .. many others have got the exact same problem.

So why should we all mess with our PC's when it seems clear that this is down to Microsoft to fix.

Our only real option seems to be ,wait because    (as you say )  ....

......... Microsoft still has to fix it !   Lets hope it's soon , and thanks for your reply's

I have got the exact same problem ,so your not alone.

As you state I can reinstall it but it only works once and if I attempt to re-open

it just a blank screen with a circle as though it is trying to load up.

All other live apps ,news etc are fine and work .

Very annoying but as a workaround until it's fixed I have gone onto MSN and saved in my favourites

the MSN weather page and it has all my saved weather places I can click onto.
