0xc000007b ERROR trying to launch Assassins Creed Unity (Uplay & Steam)

Hi All,

Fist of all let me say that this is my first post on this forum and I'm not sure which attempt to resolve the issue.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Issue

Assassins Creed Unity returns error 0xc000007b when trying to launch.

Game originates from Uplay (however I had a steam version installed as well - the same problem).

I have tried the following:

  • Reinstalling the game (2 times)
  • Installing Direct X (June 2010)
  • Updating C## visual studio
  • swapping the dll files in system32 and sysWOW64
  • Run as administrator
  • Run in compatibility mode (win 7 & win8)
  • Re installed Direct X12

No results so far.

I even had Microsoft Online Support looking at the issue for 1.5h performing various checks and running PowerShell.

I don't thing this is a hardware problem as PC is new:

Hardware configuration:

  • 16GB DDR 4 Ram
  • Nvidia GTX970 MSI
  • Intel Core I5 6600

I feel like I've tried everything (searched forums etc.).

I guess my next step will be to do clean Windows Install again and see if this helps, unless I will be able to get some answer from community.

Thank you,

Simon

    Hi All,

Thank you for all the help provided.

I ended up doing full windows reinstall - turns out that this have solved the case.

    Reason below:

Whilst I've installed the game on the first instance it came up with an error which I've tried to solve using informations from various forums (including copying some dll files etc).

Unfortunately I must have caused some issues with .net framework.

I have mentioned in posts above that I have re-build the .net framework, however I was under the impression that only latest .net framework will need re-installing (4.6).

Turns out that game requires .net 3.5 (which is included in Windows but need an update upon launching the game).

As I've messed up (I think) my .net 3.5 on the first instance, the uplay game launcher never prompted me to get the 3.5 updated.

After Windows re-install I have downloaded and installed the game again and immidietly I was promped to update .net 3.5.

Since then both games are running without any problems.

    Hi Simon,

    Apologize for delay in reply.

There are a number of reasons as to why you might receive the 0xc00007b error while running an application on a Windows machine. 0xc000007b error usually comes from mixing up a 32-bit environment with a 64-bit one. For example, the 32-bit application loads a 64-bit dll causing 0xc000007b error.

    1. Did you check the compatibility of the game?
    2. Was it working perfectly in earlier Operating System?
    3. Which version of .NET Framework is installed in the PC?

I suggest you to update/repair the .NET frame work and check.

Please reply to us with the more information for further assistance.

    Thanks.

Hi and Thank you for your suggestions.

I have checked and both application (uplay, game) and Windows are using 64bit architecture.

I've not ran the game on previous version of Windows as I've just bought my first in many years desktop on which I have installed Windows 10.

Looking on .NET frame work version I can see that regedit shows version 4 release 394254.

I have tried to check that against Microsoft website (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh925568(v=vs.110).aspx ) and according to the msdn Windows 10 should have release 393295 - version 4.6.

I have already repaired and reinstalled the .net version 3 times.

Uplay replayed that game is not compatible with Windows 10 as it was made for windows 8.1 (usual excuse).

I could technically agree with this but I have just downloaded and installed new Assassins Creed (syndicate) which is failing to start due to the same error. I guess syndicate was made to run on Win10 as it was only released on 19/11/2015.

If I get no joy within next day or 2 I will reinstall Windows and all drivers/applications (hopefully it will work then).

    Regedit screenshot below for reference.

    Thanks

    Hi Swathi,

    Thank you for your suggestions

I have checked the GPU driver and device manager confirmed that it was up to date already.

Issue was also present once I've performed clean boot. :(

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft community. I understand the inconvenience caused. I will help you with the issue.

Follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

I suggest you to update the graphics card drivers/display drivers from manufacturer website and check if it resolves the issue.

    1) Press Windows Key + X and Open Device Manager.

    2) Expand ‘Display Adapter’.

    3) Locate the display driver.

    4) Right-click on the display card listed and click on ‘Update Driver Software’.

    Method 2:

    Perform Clean Boot:

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 8 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

To boot Windows in Clean boot please refer the link below.
