How to install .jar files to play games in Windows 10.
Original Title: Help me install .jar files!
I just got this new computer and I believe it has windows 10. I love playing Minecraft and I have always wanted to play modded minecraft. However, the .jar files are being weird and it doesn't have the little coffee cup icon. instead there is just the internet explorer icon and also people keep talking about the dock that the files go to so that they can be dragged to the desktop into the mods folder. Guess what? Not there! I'm not a very tech-savvy person, so I cant fix this on my own. No one in my family really is, so they can't help me either. Maybe you guys can help me. I installed a thing of Java I think is the newest version. I'm getting really upset and frustrated, and I don't wanna do one thing wrong and then break this computer. Where do you go to drag the files to the desktop and how do .jar files even work?

2015-11-18T03:50:47+00:00 If you are wanting to mod Minecraft and need to open/extract .jar files, you need to use a
file compression software such as 7-zip (use the ,exe version that suits your version of Windows eg- 32 or 64bit) -
Also - The Edge browser that comes with Win10 apparently (so I've read), does not support the Java Plugin,
so you need to use Firefox or Chrome browsers (or IE11).

Excuse me for saying so, but you need to know. Not learning about something as basic as which Operating System
your machine is using is only going to bring endless

While MS likes to portray Windows as a plug and play 'experience'... it's not.
eg-" I installed a thing of Java I think is the newest version."
This 'thing' would be the Java 'Plugin'. A type of software that installs to you web browser.
If using Firefox web browser - go to the Tools tab and select Add-ons.
The select Plugins and have Firefox search for updates to verify if you do have the latest version
(SE 8 U66 11.66.2.18 - atm).
Again, it's best to know if it's the latest version. PC's don't function properly on guesswork.
Another important browser Plugin is Adobe Flash Player.
Note that you have to be wary when installing software, as programs such as Flash Player will automatically
install the Chrome browser, which you may not want, so clear the tick boxes next to the Chrome install options. Others may do the same with Bing, or other software.
