Nobody who can help me?
Task Scheduler - The selected task "{0}" no longer exists (event ID 413)
A few days ago I installed a fresh install of Windows 7 Premium x64 on my mediacenter in order to be able to update to Windows 10.
After having installed all available updates for Windows 7, I still didn't receive the DWX icon in the system tray.
I had this issue before with my desktop pc and followed the resolution I received on my thread here regarding that issue.
One of the actions described there was to schedule a task under "application experience" in the task scheduler and to run the GWX.exe as administrator.
After doing that I received the GWX icon in the system tray and I signed up for Windows 10.
However I still wasn't receiving the update via Windows update.
Therefore I wanted to repeat the sequence of scheduling a task and when opening the task scheduler I received the error below.
Pressing refresh gives me the same error.
When I press OK and select one of the individual tasks (for example application experience), I don't see any tasks scheduled and get the same error message, see screenshot below.
When I look at services.msc as an administrator, I see that the service is started but I'm not able to change its status because all options are greyed out, see screenshot below.
Therefore restarting the service is not possible.
When I look in Windows Event Logs (WEL), I see that the last couple of days I received a Task Scheduler error with Event ID 413, see screenshot below.
I searched the internet for this error and I find tons of results but have not really find a solution.
Some threads argue that changing the computer name could cause this problem.
I figured that the only thing that has changed recently was on november 2nd when I changed the computer name from "Mediacenter_PC" to "Mediacenter".
When I looked in WEL I saw that the first message appeared on November 2nd.
Since changing the name to cause this problem sounded reasonable, I thought that changing it back would solve everything but unfortunately that is not true.
Other threads suggest to check if the tasks on location C:\windows\system32\tasks correspond with registery entries at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree.
They also suggest to remove all entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree when all tasks correspond.
However these threads do not confirm that this is the solution.
Besides that I don't want to screw up my freshly installed Windows 7 installation by removing the wrong registry entries and nog being able to update to Windows 10 without doing a re-install.
Below you find a copy / paste of the XML text from WEL:

My questions:
- Can somebody here confirm that the removed entries will automatically be build up again by the system and therefore also "application experience" task will be present again?
- Is there anybody who can help find the solution to this bug?
- Would it also be possible for me to update to Windows 10 using the Windows "Media Creation Tool" without solving this task scheduler issue first? In other words if I could install Windows 10 using the Media Creaction Tool would the task scheduler be re-installed automatically via the Windows 10 installation?

2015-11-05T15:01:38+00:00 Hi,
Thanks for your response but I think you misinterpreted my question.
I do receive the GWX icon and I was able to reservate a copy via the GWX app.
However I don't receive the Windows 10 update through the regular Windows 7 update tool.
I had the same problem with my desktop pc and posted the question here.
I received a solution (see link in previous post) and wanted to try that same solution on my HTPC.
Unfortunately when I opened Task Scheduler I received these annoying errors.
In the meantime I tried to narrow down the problem.
I exported "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tasks\Tree\Microsoft\Windows" and started to remove the keys one by one to check if Task Scheduler would start normal.
It seems that only when I remove the complete "Windows" key or all the subkeys under the "Windows"key, as highlighted in the screenshot below, the task scheduler would start.
I tried the same with the files in the directory "**C:\windows\system32\tasks\Microsoft\Windows"**and the same applies as above.
Only when I remove the complete Windows directory under tasks or when I remove all the sub directories under Windows the Task Scheduler would start without error messages.
I'm not updating to Windows 10 with the media creation tool yet because I'm affraid the error will persist in Windows 10 after updating.
Or can someone confirm that by updating to Windows 10 the complete Task Scheduler and its tasks are re-installed?

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
I appreciate your time and effort.
If you are removing the entries from registry it will not automatically re-built and it’s always recommended to back the registry before deleting or editing.
