There are 2 issues here 1) the tiles and the lock screen do not display VM notifications, 2) Voicemail notifications in the pulldown notification area display as “Backup Assistant Plus”. These are both know issues at Verizon without a clear resolution.

    1. The voicemail icon issue is related to the Verizon Visual Voicemail which appears is not compatible with the Lumia 735. To correct this issue uninstall the “Verizon Visual Voice Mail” application. Call Verizon Support 800-922-0204 and ask them to reset your account to use standard voicemail and remove the “Visual Voice Mail” option. Restart your phone and you should now be getting VM notifications on the lock screen and Start Page Phone icons.
    2. There is no solution the voice mail being displayed under “Backup Assistant Plus” in the notification area at this time, 03/28/16.

Hi, DlpToo. You may check the info here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobile/support/faq/?action=singleTopic&topic=FA140240. Make sure that the phone is up to date by going to Settings > phone update. Also, under Store > ... > settings > check for updates. The Visual Voicemail feature is enabled by your service provider. You may contact them for more info. Have a great day!

Some phones might show the tile with the number of voice messages, but apparently not all do.  My Lumia Icon does, but my wife's Lumia 735 doesn't.  As it is now, she doesn't know when she gets a voicemail.

Looking in Settings at the Notifications + Actions, my Lumia Icon has a voicemail tile and lets me turn on/off notification banners and whether or not the phone vibrates when a new voicemail arrives.  It also lets me set the notification sound.  The Lumia 735 does not have a voicemail tile in Notifications + Actions, and, so, apparently doesn't let you turn on/off banners or vibration or choose the notification sound.

So, is there some way to set these on the Lumia 735 other than by using Notifications + Actions?

    Thanks!

As far as the 735 Notifications + Actions, when I receive a notification of a new voicemail, it comes in under Backup Assistant Plus so I would make sure that is on.  Hope that helps.

    Check my voicemail

When you get a new voicemail on your Windows Phone, you'll see two things: a notification banner that briefly appears at the top of Start, and a new voicemail icon on the Phone Tile along with the number of new missed calls. If you resize the Tile and go large with it, you'll see more handy info—including who called and when.

New voicemail notification and number of missed calls on large Phone Tile

To set up voicemail on your phone

    1. On Start , tap Phone > Voicemail .
    2. Follow the instructions to set up your voicemail.

    Note

Depending on your mobile operator and current phone plan, you may have the option to set up visual voicemail, which lets you see your voicemail messages in a list and play them.

To check your voicemail by calling

    1. On Start , tap Phone > Voicemail .
    2. When prompted, enter your voicemail password.
    3. Follow the instructions in your voicemail to listen to, replay, delete, and manage your voicemails.
    4. Tap End call to hang up.

    Tips

    • With some mobile operators, you can check your voicemail by calling your mobile phone number from your Windows Phone.
    • Looking for another way to check voicemail? Tap Phone > Keypad , and then tap and hold 1 on the keypad.
    • If you have visual voicemail set up on your phone, call your voicemail by tapping Phone > More > Settings > Call voicemail.

    To check visual voicemail

    1. On Start , tap Phone .
    2. Swipe over to Voicemail, then tap a voicemail message to play it. You can pause it , play it over the speaker , call the person back , see their contact info and then call them at a different number, or delete the message .

    Notes

    • Visual voicemail isn't available for all mobile operators, uses your cellular data plan, and might be named something else on your phone. If it's offered by your mobile operator, it must be enabled on your mobile phone plan, and your mobile operator might charge extra for it.
    • A separate visual voicemail app for your mobile operator may already be installed on your phone and may work differently.

    To change your voicemail number

Your mobile operator should automatically set the voicemail number, so you shouldn't need to change it. But if you do need to change it, here's how.

    1. On Start , tap Phone > More > Settings.
    2. Turn off Use default voicemail number , tap the box underneath, and then enter a new voicemail number.
