I found the solution to my own problem. When I checked the Startech.com website's FAQs (for my product #USB2VGAE3), I found a solution for “I’m having problems with my web browser, Microsoft Office, or other Windows applications; what do I do?” at this link.
Microsoft Office 2010 and Microsoft Office 2013
- Open any program in Microsoft Office (for example, Microsoft Word).
- Click the Filetab.
- In the menu on the left side of the screen, click Options.
- Click Advanced.
- Under Display, select the Disable hardware graphics accelerationcheck box.
- Close and restart all of the Microsoft Office programs that you had open.
Excel, Word and PowerPoint were not working but thankfully my Outlook 2013 was still functioning. So I changed the display setting there and closed it. After that my Office programs are working again.
Woohoo!!
