Compatibility mode does not work because the secdrv driver is disabled at startup even if the driver is turned on through the administrator command prompt. This is driver is needed for all my old games and not allowing me to enable it is wrong. I understand Microsoft is trying to be more secure but if I am only enabling the driver to play games offline there is no security issue. Also it should be my choice whether to run a driver on my computer or not.. Not only are you not allowing me to use the driver in a safe way but you are not allowing me to play games that I have paid for.
Black and White (original game)
Well, I recently got a copy of the original Black and White for the pc, and I downloaded the free windows 10 upgrade... Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to run. I've tried to run it in compatibility mode, administrator mode, and downloading the patches, as well as the p5dll file too.. And nothing makes it work. It comes up with the "allow program to make changes to your computer" message, and then nothing happens...
Any suggestions? I'd reeeeeaaaaallllly love to play it again... It's one of my favourite games ever.

2015-09-09T13:21:04+00:00 I have tried the compatibility mode, with each option it gives (just in case). In every case, there was no change in what it did. All it does is ask to allow me to make changes to the computer, and then nothing.

2015-12-11T08:39:43+00:00 I also recently purchased this game (used on Amazon for more than I paid for my original copy almost 15 years ago) and was really excited to play it. I have tried everything; running each compatibility mode, logging in as administrator, downloading all the patches and p5dll file, changing resolution/graphics, etc., and nothing has worked.
If an actual Microsoft employee (definitely smarter than I and probably safer than the websites I have been searching) could get on this issue, that would be wise. Apparently I am not the only person out there searching for ways to play this game in particular and also other old school windows games. I will be feeling very let down by Microsoft if I have to dig out a 10 year old PC to play one simple game when I have just paid a good amount of money for a shiny new Windows OS laptop... It seems people have been looking for this answer since Windows 7, and I have yet to fall upon any Microsoft response that lead to positive results.
Thanks in advance to anyone who gets on this.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
I suggest you to run the program in compatibility mode and install it.
To run the program in Compatibility mode follow the below steps.
- Right-click on the setup file and click on ‘properties’.
- Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select operating system from the drop down.
- Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

- If not, and you are using the disk based version of the game, "Open" the disk and look for a file titled secdrv.sys.
If this file is there, read my full rant on MS's malware they call DRM blocking.
