Event log shows Error (PrintService Event 215) trying to install printer driver, where not installed in or connected to my machine

On every boot up, the event log shows an error "Installing printer driver Brother MFC-J825DW Printer failed, error code 0x78A, HRESULT 0x8007078A."

But that printer in not, and has never been, installed on my machine.

Any idea what's causing this?

Thanks.

Ken

I'm pretty pumped - had the same problem just now and figured it out!

You need to remove these drivers from "All Drivers" list in the "Print Management" app:

For me, these were printers I had installed (and removed) back when I had win 7 before the upgrade.

The Original Poster, Ken, said that the Brother MFC-J825DW Printer "[is] not, and has never been, installed," so please explain how anyone could "Expand the device" or "Right click on the device," as you instructed in steps b. & c.??

    Hi Cyrus,

try searching for a directory matching *mp510* in

    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

If you find a matching directory, delete it and its contents.

Also search for C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepositor\*\*mp510*.inf and delete any files that match that search string.

    Hi Ken,

    1. Do you have any other printer connected to the computer?
    2. Have you made any recent software or hardware changes on the computer?

This issue may usually occur if you have connected to any network printer earlier and that might have changed any startup/ printer settings.

Let’s try the following steps to check in Device Manager to see if any Printer drivers or other device drivers are listed. If listed, you may try uninstall those instances and check.

You may also follow the above mentioned steps to run the Network Adapter troubleshooter

Uninstall and reinstall the Network adapter.

    a. Press Windows Key + X. Select Device manager.

    b. Expand the device (printer or other devices) in the Device Manager.

    c. Right click on the device and click on Properties.

    d. Click on driver tab and click on Uninstall Drivers and click OK.

    e. Restart the computer and check.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help.
