I just got a Logitech laptop speaker z205 and have had the issue where it cannot locate a driver for it, despite this device using only the default usb audio device driver (and not having any other drivers provided by logitech).
I have a Windows 8.1 machine.
Here are the steps I have taken to diagnose the error more specifically:
I have tried the speaker on other 8.1 machines, and they work.
I have tried restarting, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, and such.
My USB ports, all three, work with other devices, just not this one. They work with other usb based audio devices that have their own specific drivers, such as a platronics headset.
I have read several posts and was pointed to the file "usbaudio.sys" as a driver for generic audio devices.
This file does not exist in my drivers folder.
I have tried to force it to use USB audio driver type when searching for drivers via picking a list of device drivers on my computer.
USB audio device is not listed in the manufacturer area, though Generic USB Hub is listed.
And as per some other posts on this site I have attempted to both "regsvr32 usbaudio.sys" in command prompt (which resulted in a file not found error)
And I also ran sfc /scannow in command prompt which resulted in errors that were unfixable.
I assume the issue is that the USBAudio.sys is missing entirely and there is no generic driver installed at all. How do I find this driver set and fix this issue?
