Hitachi Touro Desk pro HDD does not recognize on Windows 8 computer.

Original title : Windows 8 - Hitachi Touro Pro support

I've a Hitachi Touro Desk pro HDD that no longer works since I upgraded to windows 8 last week. If i leave it connected while booting, windows won't start and If i connect it once booted it doesn't show up in explorer, even though you can hear the drive spinning away.

The HDD works on every other computer and operating system, just not windows 8.

When will Microsoft issue a patch to fix this? I really don't want to have to re-install windows 7 so that i can access my files again.

I installed Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10049 and connected my Hitachi touro 750 Gb drive into USB 3.0 and it WORKS!!!!

I can't believe that after several years of frustration with this device incompatibility with Windows 8.1 it finally works fine in Windows 10! Please check if you also have Windows 10 TP if your Hitachi drive works as well

The problem is the controller. My Touro Desk Pro suddenly stopped working and I suspected a controller failure. I opened the case and rebuild the drive in a standard external disk case (usb 3.0 and SATA). Now the drive works fine on all operating systems

I think I have the solution. (At least it served me...)

First, you have to get a computer to save your files. Now, you must format the external drive to exFAT and ready, W8 should read the drive without problems. You only need to move the files into the drive again.

Sorry if I have bad English, but I only speak Spanish.

Reply with above information to help you better.

I’m glad to provide you with these steps which will help you to resolve issue with Hitachi Touro Desk pro HDD.

    Method 1:

    a.       Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

    b.      Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

    c.       Click hardware and sound and run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

    d.      Follow the On screen instructions.

    Method 2:

You may **** start the computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists. Follow these steps to start the computer in clean boot.

    Step 1:

    a.       Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

    b.      In the ‘Run’ window type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.

    c.       Click the ‘Boot’ tab and uncheck ‘Safe Boot’ option.

    d.      On the ‘General’ tab, click to select the option ‘Selective startup’, and then click to clear the option Load startup items check box.

    e.      On the ‘Services’ tab, click to select the ‘Hide all Microsoft services’ check box, and then click ‘Disable all’.

    f.        On the ‘StartUp’ tab, click ‘Open Task Manager’. In the Task Manager window under startup tab, right click on each startup item which are enabled and select ‘Disable’.

    g.       Click ‘OK’, and then click Restart.

Step 2: Enable half of the services

    a.       Follow steps 1a and 1b to start the System Configuration utility.

    b.      Click the Services tab, and then click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box.

    c.       Click to select half of the check boxes in the Service list.

    d.      Click OK, and then click Restart.

Step 3: Determine whether the problem returns.

If the problem still occurs, repeat step 1 and step 2. In step 2, click to clear half of the check boxes that you originally selected in the Service list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat step 1 and step 2. In step 2, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Service list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one service is selected in the Service list, and you still experience the problem, the selected service causes the problem. Go to step 6. If no service causes this problem, go to step 4.

Step 4: Enable half of the Startup items

If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely causes the problem. To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the Hide all Microsoft services check box in either step.

Step 5: Determine whether the problem returns

If the problem still occurs, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, click to clear half of the check boxes that you originally selected in the Startup Item list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Startup Item list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one startup item is selected in the Startup Item list, and you still experience the problem, the startup item that is selected in the list is the service that is causing the problem. Go to step 6.

If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely causes the problem. To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the Hide all Microsoft services check box in either step.

    Step 6: Resolve the problem.

After you determine the startup item or the service that causes the problem, contact the program manufacturer to determine whether the problem can be resolved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box for the problem item.

    Method 3:

Perform Refresh and see if it helps.  Follow these steps:

    a.       Press Windows logo + Q to open the search box.

    b.      Click Settings and then type Refresh your PC.

    c.       Now click Get Started under Refresh your PC without affecting your files.

    d.      Now click next.

Note:  Refreshing Windows 8 will remove all third party applications installed and it will reset all the Microsoft applications to default.

    When you refresh your computer:

    ·         Your files and personalization settings won't change.

    ·         Your PC settings will be changed back to their defaults.

    ·         Apps from Windows Store will be kept.

    ·         Apps you installed from discs or websites will be removed.

    ·         A list of removed apps will be saved on your desktop.
